and Physical Education
Goals of P.D.H.P.E
• P.D.H.P.E hopes to teach students about all aspects of their wellbeing,
including social, mental, physical and spiritual health. Students learn
the skills of friendship making through activities in class and outside
physical activity, they also learn how to be a good friend for another
person. They are able to learn about their physical health and how to
improve it from brushing their teeth, healthy eating, how their body
works and how to get physically active.
• Students hopefully learn life skills that they will be able to use
through school and even after they have finished their schooling life.
From effective communication, decision making, problem solving and
how to interact with a variety of people and situations.
Personal
Development
In the Personal Development side of P.D.H.P.E we help
students learn about communication, how to express
needs, wants, feeling, ideas and opinions.
We teach students about interpersonal relationships,
families, groups, tolerance and prejudice physical, social
and emotional growth and development patterns
From this we hope they develop positive interpersonal
relationships, develop and maintain friendships and learn
to work cooperatively as a group member.
We also teach students life skills of how to resolve problem
using a variety of problem solving strategies and how to
select safe practices in the school, at home and outside.
From this we hope the students are able to gather relevant
information and make informed decisions and health
choices form these skills and relate positively to others and
their environment.
Health
In the health side of P.D.H.P.E we teach students about
health and how to make healthy choices in their life from
food choices and exercise. We aim to help students reach
these goals.
To support health students must be active for 30 minutes
a day and it’s up to the school to help students achieve
this by finding physical activities that are fun for them to
achieve.
We hope student learn that physical activity can be a fun
activity rather than a chore so they will be more likely to
go home and continue the different activities shown to
them at school.
Student will learn about the food pyramid and what
foods are good for them and why. They will learn
approximately how much of each food group they should
be eating a day.
We hope these skills learnt will enable better health and
movement outcomes for the students.
Physical Education
Physical education is important during the primary school
years, it is an important time for the development of
fundamental movement skills. A failure to gain these
skills in primary years creates a barrier to ongoing
physical activity in adolescence and adulthood. If not
developed at this time, they are seldom learnt in later
life.
We help students develop the fundamental movement
patterns and how to coordinate actions of the body by
helping them participate in a variety of games and sports
that help them master the fundamental skills.
It is the schools focus to give students the opportunity to
be physically active every day. Through this focus we
hope students learn to adopt an active lifestyle outside of
school and as they develop and grow.
Importance of P.D.H.P.E
Learning P.D.H.P.E is important as it encourages an understanding and
valuing of self and others, emphasises decision making leading to
effective and responsible action and promotes health and physical
activity. Teaching students about having a positive attitude is highly
important in every aspect of P.D.H.P.E.
The skills taught in P.D.H.P.E will only be effective if adequate time is
provided to develop and practice the skills so students are able to act in
their own best interests in a variety of situations. It is our goal as
teachers to provide this time for the students and to make the learning
experiences fun hopefully resulting in the students practicing and
developing these skills further outside of the classroom.
