This course will provide you with
the skills you need to progress to
an undergraduate degree at UEL or
a wide range of British universities.
It is aimed at students who have completed secondary
education, normally lasting 12 years, in their home
country.
The UEL International Foundation Programme will
help you find out more about what it is like to study
at a British university and, if necessary, help you to
improve your English language skills.
Students taking the UEL International Foundation
Programme will benefit from our first-class teaching
staff, campuses and facilities, together with the
services of our dedicated International Office.
You will have full access to our libraries, which are
open 24-hours a day, seven days a week, together
with our computer and sports facilities. You will also
be able to enjoy all the cultural and leisure facilities
that London has to offer.

Our campuses are less than
30 minutes from Central London,
by the Docklands Light Railway,
tube, train or 24-hour buses.
If you fancy something more local, there are large retail
parks within easy reach of our Docklands and Stratford
campuses. Westfield Stratford City is Europe’s largest
urban shopping centre and is just a few minutes walk
from our Stratford campus.
London’s ethnic diversity is reflected in its food from
the famous Brick Lane curry houses to far-eastern
cuisine in China town. If you prefer to cook yourself,
you will find it easy to buy familiar ingredients from all
over the world.
Many of London’s best attractions are free, from top
museums and galleries to street entertainment on the
South Bank and outdoor opera in the world-famous
Covent Garden.
This unique course can be completed
in one or two semesters, depending on
your level of English.
Students with IELTS 5.5, or an equivalent qualification,
would normally take the one-semester programme. If
you have a lower score, of IELTS 4.5 or above, you will
normally be accepted onto the two-semester course.
You will be expected to spend about 16 hours a week
attending lessons on campus, in addition to your own
independent study.
Successful completion of the course can lead to
automatic entry to a range of Bachelors courses at UEL.

To join the International Foundation
Programme you need to have
completed 12 years of schooling
in your home country.
The academic requirements for the countries
where the course is most popular are:
India – An aggregate score of over 50% in Class 12,
including 50% in maths.
China – Passing middle school with an average of 60%,
with 70% in year 11 maths or 60% in year 12 maths.
Malaysia – SPM with six passes, including maths.
Nigeria – Five credit passes of grade 1-6 from the
SSCE (WAEC/NECO).

check if you may be qualified to join the programme.
The English language requirements for all
candidates are:
• For the one semester programme, you will need
an overall IELTS of at least 5.5, with a 5.5 in each
component, or a TOEFL of 72 plus, with at least
17 in listening, 18 in reading, 20 in speaking and
17 in writing.
• For the two semester programme, we require an
overall IELTS of at least 4.5, with a 4.5 in each
component, or a TOEFL of 50 plus, with at least
11 in listening, 6 in reading, 18 in speaking and
15 in writing.
• We also accept other English language qualifications,
including Pearson’s PTE, Cambridge CAE and
Cambridge CPE, and certain country-specific
qualifications.

Tuition fees
One semester course: £4,000.

How to apply
If you live in India, China or Malaysia, please apply
through your Overseas Centre (see page 6). Students
from other countries should download an application
form from uel.ac.uk/international and send it to us,
complete with copies of your relevant qualifications,
such as degree certificate and transcripts and English
language qualifications.
When to apply
Although we don’t operate a formal closing date,
you are advised to apply as early as possible
and make sure that you allow enough time for
a successful via application.
