4. You Can Learn New Skills For Life
Bob, David and Ian are thriving at
the ‘Men In Sheds’ sessions at Age
UK Warwickshire at the Claremont
Centre, Rugby. The woodwork
projects can last one day or months.
They choose what to make and they are learning quickly. In these
photographs they are building and decorating a bird house with
1:1 supervision. Everyone has a part to play and gets involved with
nailing, sanding and painting. Bob is improving his skills that he learned
at college.
Bob said, “I enjoy it. I like to decorate.
My favourite is painting.”
5. You Can Develop Your Independence
Understanding the cooking process from
start to finish is a very useful skill that helps
people to be more independent. We also
help people to learn about healthy food
choices so that they can make positive
decisions and take care of themselves.
Michael said, “I listen carefully so I remember for
next time how to prepare and cook the dishes.”
6. Linda is more confident at walking
in the pool and swimming with
1:1 support.
Your Goals are Important To Us
Floristry keeps Alison focussed
and her hands moving which gives
her the exercise she needs to
improve her co-ordination.
Trevor creates very colourful
pictures in art groups from
outline drawings.
Susie and Mohammed are
developing their co-ordination
and balance in Clubasize Classes.
Michelle can sign in Makaton
fluently while singing.
7. Bob takes a hands on approach at
the allotment and gets thoroughly
involved.
Cooking sessions help David to
use his initiative and focus in a
busy environment.
Tina uses her literacy group to
write poems that she can speak
aloud with confidence in drama
sessions.
Katharine uses her typing skills
to help her express herself as
handwriting is difficult.
Mark enjoys horseriding which
improves his balance, wellbeing
and leisure time.
8. You Can See Progress At Our Allotment
We have a community
allotment in Rugby which
began as a patch of soil
overgrown with weeds.
The people who attend
Community Choices Network
get involved by digging,
weeding, buying and planting
vegetables. The crops now
include lettuce, carrots, beetroot, potatoes, onions, leeks and
strawberries which are used as ingredients in cooking sessions. One
individual, Anthony, really enjoys this group as one of his favourites.
Bob said, “I enjoy being outside and doing
things with everyone to help out.”
