Production reflections
• This proforma is to record how you worked on your production
• You should complete this each week during production
• Consider all relevant areas that you covered that week
• Think about what worked/what didn’t work/how you can improve
and actions for the following sessions/weeks
Process – week 1
• I spent the first week of production
on my initial plan power point which
I had some difficulty with as I had to
come up three ideas for my music
video, this was fairly hard as I
struggled to think of what songs to
use for the video but once I had
three songs I came up with ideas for
the video quite quickly.
• I decided on Shadows by Childish
Gambino as I liked how the song
changed in style in the second half
which I had a lot of ideas on using in
the video. I wanted to have a video
that changed in appearance when
the style of the song changed.
• The best part about deciding on my
initial plans was coming up with
ideas for the video as I liked
listening to the song and thinking of
how my video could be integrated
into it.
Process – week 2
• In the second week I worked on my research
power point and my proposal. By the time I
finished my initial plans I had a clear plan of
how I wanted my video to look so I researched
the technical elements of the video that I would
need to edit such as the clone effect which I did
in my experiments with other students and it
worked fairly well. My other experiment with a
night time filter didn’t work so I decided to film
at night which I knew would decrease the
quality of the footage.
• I started by researching films and tutorials that I
knew would demonstrate how to use certain
effects and techniques. Such as Baby Driver
which has action scenes which are synced to
the music playing so I thought I could
incorporate this into my video somehow maybe
having footsteps to the beat. I looked for
tutorials on how to use the cloning effect in
videos which I practiced in the experiments.
• For my proposal I talked about how I wanted my
music video to look however I found it hard to
describe a summery of my music videos plot as
it more based on the visual elements in the
video.
Process – week 3
• In the third week of production I worked on the
the pre production of my video. I needed to make
concept boards, story boards and a shots list so I
had a better idea of the shots I wanted to use in
the video. Although this took a lot of time it really
helped me when I started filming as I knew what
shots I wanted to use and how long my shots
would have to be to fit the video.
• In my concept board I used a lot of Imagery from
horror films as I wanted to have the second half
seem like a horror film with colourful lighting like
the film Suspiria and an over the shoulder shot
replicating a shot from the first Halloween film.
The main effect I wanted to create was a theme
of fear and mystery.
• I planned my music video thinking I would have
lot’s of time to film so I thought of lots of different
camera angles and uses of lighting however when
I was actually filming I had a very limited time to
film both the night and day time shots. This
problem meant that I didn’t have time to shoot
the close ups with coloured lighting and some
shots ended up being out of focus.
• For my story board I planned a basic structure of
my music video rather than showing each
individual shot so it would give me an outline for
how I’d shoot the music video.
Process – week 4
• The process of filming my music video was
difficult because on Sunday when we were
meant to film both the day time and night
time shots but Peri who was acting as the girl
in the video couldn’t come that day so we
had to film the night time shots on Sunday
and the day time shots on Wednesday
morning which meant our time to film was
limited again. I didn’t have long to shoot
either the day shots or the night shots which
meant a lot of thoughts I had in planning
were scrapped in order to finish on time.
• I feel like if I had more time to shoot my
video I would be satisfied with the results as
I’d have shots to fill in the rest of the video.
When I was editing my video I realised the
shot of the stalker in the daytime shot wasn’t
impactful as the two character in the
background couldn’t be seen so it looked like
a regular shot of a person in a hoodie walking
away from the camera
• When I was editing the music video I found it
fairly easy to edit the footage to fit the music.
I decided that I would get the glitch effect in
the video by making several quick cuts in a
row that flash up different shots from video. I
used the colour scale while editing to give the
daytime shots a dreamlike style while would
be contrasted by the night shots.
Process – week 5
• For my evaluation I want to focus
on how I could've improved the
outcome of my video by putting
more preparation into the pre
production of my video as this was
the main reason I rushed to finish
filming when I should've had an
easier time filming.
• I could talk about how my editing
improved the footage I had due to
using the cloning technique and
quick cuts for the transitions.
• I could mention comments made
the video which I’ve seen and
could use as audience feed back
