Physical Fitness Benefits for
Teens
Teenage years are more crucial in terms of both physical and
mental development. The fitness habits a teenager develops are
likely to last a lifetime. Recent studies have shown that exercise
can be beneficial to a teen's overall health while enhancing a
positive body image.
No matter what your age is, you should exercise daily. Not only
does exercise tone your body but also strengthens your muscles,
improves your skin, keeps your bone strong, enhances mood
and sleep, provides increased relaxation, strong immune
function and many more to mention. While health is important
throughout one's entire life, focusing on physical health in teens
is substantial.
Benefits of physical fitness
Exercise helps to use the oxygen and causes your body to burn
stored fat thus maintaining a normal healthy weight.
Most people know that exercise keeps the muscles strong. But,
because of more muscle mass, the body burns more calories even
when you're not working out. Usually guys have more muscle mass,
hence they burn calories faster and lose weight easily compared to
girls.
Regular, moderate weight bearing exercise keeps your bones strong.
Studies have shown that strengthening exercises also boosts bone
mass.
Exercise helps to boost the delivery of nutrients and circulation of
blood to your skin, thus helping to detoxify the body by flushing out
toxins.
Regular exercise reduces the amount of stress hormones in the
body, resulting in relaxed blood vessels, slower heart rate and lower
blood pressure.
Regular exercise enhances psychological fitness and reduces
symptoms of moderate depression. It also produces changes in
certain chemical levels in the body which can have an effect on the
psychological state.
Regular exercise helps to jump start the immune system thus
reducing the onset of flu, cold and other viruses. Also, keep in mind
that too much exercise may have the opposite effect too where it
weakens the immune system.
Exercise helps to boost blood flow to the brain and helps it to
receive nutrients and oxygen. The better shape you are in, the faster
you'll fire brain waves that are responsible for quick thinking.
Being fit during adolescence is linked to having a higher IQ and
also increases the likelihood of higher professional and educational
achievements in adulthood. Participating in fitness programs help
teens with a proactive, positive, empowered attitude toward their
own health and well-being. The benefits that they can derive from it
should not be underestimated, and in the process, we can be assured
that the next generation of workers would be more productive and
healthy.
