3. Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
4. MY ALBUM COVER WAS INSPIRED BY COUNT BASIE’S ALBUM FRONT COVER , BUT I HAD TO KEEP THE CONCEPT OF
MY MUSIC VIDEO IN MIND AS WELL. BECAUSE A CAR MOSTLY SYMBOLIZES ADVENTURE AND ESPECIALLY A
CONVERTIBLE ONE, SO MY COVER HAD TO BE DIFFERENT AND HAD TO MATCH WITH MY PLOT AT THE SAME TIME.
SO FOR THIS I TOOK THE SHOT OF THE TAILIGHT OF MY CAR,BUT IT WAS STILL VERY BRIGHT FOR THAT I CHANGED
THE CONTRAST OF THE COVER I WANTED IT TO BE A VINTAGE AND DULL LOOK AS A SYMBOLISM OF SADNESS AND
PAIN.
5. My video opens where a guy receives this text message where the girl he loves was suppose to meet
him but breaks up with him instead, The codes and conventions I had to challenge here were to
make actor’s reaction match with this scene, The Narration had to be perfectly timed with the scene,
and editing played an important role here where a transition effect is added with picture into
picture, Linking the Text message scene with the Guy’s Reaction.
6. The Actual plot takes place in this scene and this is where the viewers can actually gain understanding of
what the song is actually about.
The Opening titles are shown in this sequence
7. This was suppose to be a medium shot as the guy is walking away in depression and
pain , I had to move the camera along with the movement of the character so as
he walks away it becomes a wide shot
8. Next scene is a Medium Close Up Shot because it was important to show the facial
expressions of the actor clearly, and his reactions was the main focus in this scene.
9. The camera moves away from the guy as the scenario was about to be changed, The guy
stops the car and feels sadness as he cant stop thinking about the girl.
10. I used the same location as I did in the first scene of my video but wanted a different view
this time because the emotions and reactions in this scene are different in order to shoot
that I also wanted the location to be shown in the background.
So a High angle shot was taken here.
11. The Editing had to be good in this scene because I wanted the viewers to feel that the guy is
so much in depression that he feels like his world is twisting and turning, As you can see
The constant change of colors in the background represent that.
12. MY ENDING SCENE IS INSPIRED BY BRUNO MARS SONG GRENADE’S ENDING SCENE, BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS THE
MODE OF TRANSPORT IN BOTH THE SCENES I CHOSE TO PUT A CAR IN MY SCENE TO MAKE IT LOOK MORE SIMPLE.
THIS SCENE TOTALLY ADDS UP WITH THE SAD STORY AND THE NAME OF THE SONG “WHAT DID I DO WRONG”
IT FITS WITH THE PLOT AND TO SHOW THE SCENE IN LESSER TIME I PLANNED TO TAKE A LONG SHOT IN THIS SCENE
AS YOU CAN SEE.
Bruno Mars Grenade What Did I Do Wrong- Adil Abbas
14. As you can see designing my magazine was a little difficult to document because I had to
admire the fact that my video is sad and to present all of that in one single magazine ad
would confuse the viewers instead.
So what I thought proved to be best for my magazine ad is that I grabbed a scene from the
video and blurred the backgrounds in a fast motion way creating a shadow of the artist as a
sign of numbness and showing that the Actor is thinking whilst the time is passing but it
has stopped for him and he is numb.
15. The car in the Front page is
the same car the guy is
driving in the most
emotional sequence of
the video.
The back cover of the
Album Cover is pretty
attention grabbing as I
am standing just
beside the car with my
head tilted
downwards which
shows that I am lost in
my own thinkingThe location where
the album cover
was shot is
same as the one
in my Music
video where the
guy is driving
and he cant stop
crying
16. The Actor on the magazine advertisement and on the digipak is the
same actor who’s in the music video.
(Similar settings)The Parking Lot on the digipak was used in the
video
(Similar clothing) used to attract the same target audience
The target audience being males and females aged 16-25.
Name of singer on in with the male singer in the music video.
The song title, What Did I Do Wrong, which is written on the
magazine advertisement is the name of the song which is used in
the music video and it is written in the same font style.
19. For My target audience, I found that the texts were completely appropriate.
My target audience is primarily teenagers and young adults and the music the
company helps produce is often placed under the popular music category.
The music produced is appealing to the target audience as they can easily
relate to the story within the video.
The scenario that plays out often reflects that which goes on within the lives of
teens and young adult couples so it is a genre of music that they are drawn
towards. Due to the use of a Male on the cover of both the digi pak and the
advertising poster, the Male section of the target audience would be more
drawn to the story also because the plot . They would therefore seek more
information from the poster, and are more likely to buy the CD due to
presentation of front cover. The general layout of the advertising poster
would attract more fans due to the interest in the published image. Fans
would be persuaded to buy the new album due to the positive reviews
given by well-known individuals in the music industry. Overall, we found
that the final product of the magazine advert and the CD digi pak are fully
appropriate for the target audience and fulfilled their purpose successfully.
20. I used Social Networking Websites as it was ideal to get quick feedback
from the Audience over there
Facebook is the amongst the number one websites and I could target
large number of people on it so that’s what I did.
I uploaded my Final product(Music Video)
And got the response which helped me know what my product is actually
worth for.
21. Question 4
How did I use media technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation stages?
22. PLANNING
I made a sketch about the concept of my video and tried a couple of new ideas but chose the
best one at the end
It was easier for me to decide because I asked my actor to actually act the scene out in the
same angle and similar way, then I made my storyboard and gave a lot of thought on
what my actor is best at, the shot composition was not much of an issue because the
locations I had in mind didn’t give me much options
I made a few visits at this location and
found the place interesting because
there was ample space to walk and
this location gives you a glance of
loneliness which symbolised with the
plot of my video.
23. The closing sequence was the spine of
the video according to me so I had to do
it right and I was not sure of which shot
composition to prefer so I took a lot of
different shots from different angles and
at the end chose the final best one as you
can see.
POINT OF VIEW SHOT
As the accident is scene from the driver’s
perspective and looks more realistic
24. All of this was possible because of technology and the resources I had
The scenes that I was able to shot again and again the takes I shot were recorded
by A Nikon D3200 DSLR
The Location Scouting took time and I just needed some basic pictures for the
locations so I chose a basic camera of Samsung SII
Internet Also played a vital role in all of this
I used search engines to educate myself in video editing and improve my Research
Process.
