2. Latina Women
◦ Even though it was a hard for Latina women to prove themselves worthy of being a
teacher and for others to be in the position they are now. Many of them claim to be
very successful in their jobs.
◦ Why? I asked myself this question. Why did they think of themselves as successful?
◦ The author had stated that they “are able to employ ethnic and gender-derived
characteristics to positively influence their everyday leadership practice and style” (Dr.
Lisandra Tayloe, 2017)
3. Methods
◦ Some methods explained in this Articles are of the author explaining the use of
studies.
◦ The author in this article made the use of surveying in particular Latina Women. For
example stated in the article were 30 surveys and 4 interviews.
◦ Age span was from 29-62 and 1-26 years of teaching experience.
4. Barriers
◦ Some barriers noted in this study were:
◦ Latinas feared that we would 1) be discriminated by race during screening, interviews,
and or selection.
◦ 2) That we would be viewed at negatively by colleagues due to the low number of
Latinas on board.
◦ 3) Finally that the community would have a preference of a white person for
administrative positions.
5. Conclusions
◦ Some conclusions to end this presentation were:
◦ That Latina women will keep being successful in what they do. If anything Latina
women were not discouraged but instead were pushed to prove their worth. This
particularly made Latina women become more aware of the culture differences
between students.
◦ This just made the author be able to recognize the differences Latina teachers are
making in the K-12 system.
6. My Suggestions
◦ If anything I'm really happy our number of Latina teachers has increased even a little bit. I don’t
want the teachers to give up and if anything to come at it with a passion. Because even today
I’m extremely grateful to my Kindergarten and 1st grade teacher because they were Latina
women that helped me with my English when I grew up inly speaking Spanish. And I know that
these teachers will be impacting these children in a very good way.

◦ This resource explains the problem with how our population of students will exceed
and we need more diversity in the near future.
