2. INTRODUCTION
What is Immortality?
Immortality means different things to different people. But in the context of
this presentation, it refers to radical life extension
How is immortality possible?
Simple. By defeating aging and conquering death. There are three pathways
and they can be combined: physical, digital, and religious immortality
3. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONQUER
DEATH?
"Every human being is bound to taste death“ - Anonymous
Yes, there is a beginning and an end. Everything that has a start will
have an end. That's the thought for birth and death.
This true, and by human nature, a man is born, afterward, he dies.
But can we manipulate nature as it regards death?
We shouldn't struggle with nature. We have to struggle for progress,
alongside human nature. We should understand the laws of nature.
We can modify it.
We are not the whole. We are only a part of the whole. Yes, we are
the most intelligent known species. We are not in contradiction with
nature. We are collaborating with nature.
There is the law of neutralization. We can use the law above to
conquer the laws below. We just need a method to translate the
metaphysical into scientific step-by-step method.
4. WHY SEEK IMMORTALITY?
“If you ask the right questions, you will get the right answers” – Anonymous
The reason to seek immortality is because it is possible. The benefits are –
1. Space Colonization --
We have the obligation to spread our species across the milky way galaxy and beyond, so that
advanced intelligence at the level of human does not die out when the sun dies out or when
the earth becomes inevitable.
It is needed because of the long time it takes for interstellar travel.
2. Elimination of the Fear of Death
It will remove one of our greatest fears of human - fear of death
3. To spare us from the humuliation, misery, disability, oscelence, physical suffering and
cosmetic deterioration of growing old.
It is possible to live forever. The ‘how-to’ is what differs. A universal law (from the Kybalion)
states that as above, so below. Since we have discovered biologically immortal organisms like
the Jelly fish, then we may be able to live indefinitely. "Death is no longer inevitable since
biological immortal organisms can live for ever."
5. DIGITAL IMMORTALITYWhat if we have a memory stored on a disk with your neural network on it, it will live
after you die. That means some of you will live forever. Your goals, personality,
memories, etc will be stored and somewhere along the line, your great grand
children can have a conversation with you.
Can you take your consciousness and put it in an electronic or bioengineered
environment.
In the laboratory today, we are beginning to understand our own brain and how
memories are formed. The mind will be interfacing with the machines, controlling
the machines indefinately
President Barack Obama and The EU have pledge over a billion dollars on the next
big thing after the human genome project and that is the brain project. To sequence
and map the whole human brain.
In Sweden 2011, scientists replace organ that was grown in the laboratory. The
organ was grown in the Lab by a london scientist in just few days. The wind pipe
was grown with the patient's DNA.
In as little as ten years, any organ will be growable in the laboratory in any quantity.
It is believed that immortality is an inevitable part of natural evolution.
6. BRAIN-COMPUTER INTERFACEBrain Computer Interface (BCI) - is a series of electrodes placed on the scalp to record brain
signals.
Substantial achievements have been made in the field of brain-computer interfaces, or BCIs
(also called brain-machine interfaces). The cochlear implant — in which the brain's cochlear
nerve is electronically stimulated to restore a sense of sound to someone who is hard of
hearing — was the first true BCI (Tanya Lewis (2013)
Theodore Berger, a neural engineer at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, is
taking BCIs to a new level by developing a memory prosthesis. Berger aims to replace part of
the brain's hippocampus, the region that converts short-term memories into long-term ones,
with a BCI. (Tanya Lewis (2013)
Virtually Human explores what the not-too-distant future will look like when
cyberconsciousness―simulation of the human brain via software and computer
technology―becomes part of our daily lives. If you're active on Twitter or Facebook, share
photos through Instagram, or blogging regularly, you're already on your way to creating a
Mindfile―a digital database of your thoughts, memories, feelings, and opinions that is
essentially a back-up copy of your mind. “Mindware, which is a personality operating-system
type of software, creates a program that (a) thinks and feels the way a human mind does, and
(b) sets its thinking and feeling parameters (like sliders in editing software) to match those
discernible from a mindfile. When mindware processes a mindfile the output is a mindclone of
the person who created that mindfile. The mindclone will be self-aware that it is a software
analog of a biological person’s mind, based upon that person’s digital footprints and
sociocultural contextual information available to the mindware.”
—Martine Rothblatt, Virtually Human: The Promise—and the Peril—of Digital Immortality (2014)
Scientists have been working on mapping the human brain and network and transporting it to a
computer network.
It will only be a matter of time before we will be able to emulate the human brain in a computer
and map a consciousness ontop of it.
7. NANOTECHNOLOGY
The branch of technology that deals with dimensions and tolerances of less
than 100 nanometers, especially the manipulation of individual atoms and
molecules.
With future developments in nanotechnology, you will be able to take a
particular pill that is filled with nanotechnology and the nanotechnology will
convert your body cell by cell, atom by atom, into an exact clone of your body
that is made up of nanotechnology. Your body will then convert from being
organic to being nanotechnological, so you will be converting your body into
becoming a machine. You will gain immortality. You will gain tremendous
powers that you don't have as a normal, regular human being. We will become
super human.
8. RELIGIOUS IMMORTALITY
"I did not invent anything but I just put together what God already had created“ Thomas Edison
Here, we will look at three views: The Muslims and Christians.
For the muslims, Prophet Mohammed told them to work as if we will never die while acknowledging that we can die any minute.
In other words, we should not ignore technology or religion but we must focus equally on both because religion and technology
do not conflict, on the contrary, they synergize and complete each other.
This day will be the beginning of a life that will never end. It's the day when all people will be rewarded by God according to their
beliefs and deeds. Those who die as believers, will be rewarded on that day and will be admitted to paradise forever, as Allah
says.
“The muslims believe there will be a final hour bringing the end to this world's life, and that there will be a last day after which
there will be no other day. - The Quran”
9. IMMORTALITY IN CHRISTIANITYDid people become immortal from what we read in the Bible? Yes. Enouch and Elijah
(Prophet Eliyahu).
And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. Gen. 5:24.
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God
had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Hebrews 11:5
Note that Enoch lived for three hundred and sixty-five years before God took him. He didn’t
see death.
2 Kings 2:11King James Version (KJV)
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a
10. JESUS HAS OVERCOME
DEATH ONCE AND FOR ALL
50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit
the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit
incorruption.
51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we
shall all be changed,
52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump:
for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised
incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this
mortal must put on immortality.
54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and
this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be
brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed
up in victory.
55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
11. CONCLUSION
I am Christian and I am convinced that death has been swallowed up in victory when Jesus died on the cross
and said ot is finished. His resurrection is our hope of eternal life even as he levitate bodily to heaven and we
come back to rapture Christians.
“In the words of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome: But blessed be God! When Jesus died on the cross, He went right
into hell, the devil’s territory and took back from him the keys of death and hell: ‘I am he that liveth, and was
dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death’(Revelations
1:18). He overcame death when He triumphantly rose from the dead and ushered man into a new life. Today,
anyone who is born again need not fear death, for death has been defeated by Jesus; it’s the last enemy that
will be destroyed”
The generation that will believe it fully is the generation that will see the rapture.
