3. Gorilla Glass - specialized toughened
glass developed and manufactured by Corning.
Scratch-resistant and durable glass product.
Used to protect the screens of tablets,
smartphone and other mobile devices.
Lightweight, strong and compatible with touch
screen technologies. As a result of its strength,
screens made of Gorilla Glass can be very thin.

5. Manufacturing process
Gorilla glass is made from a material called alkali-aluminosilicate, which is
formed by bonding aluminium, silicone and oxygen together.
First a bled of alkali aluminosilicate is made in a closed environment.
Then it is heated and casted to form thin sheets of few microns.
The thin films are brought to room temperature gradually.
The main process is the ion exchange process, which makes it damage resistance.
6. • The material is immersed in a molten alkaline potassium salt at a temperature
of approximately 400 °C (750 °F).
• Smaller sodium ions in the glass are replaced by larger potassium ions from the
salt bath.
• The larger ions occupy more volume and thereby create a surface layer of high
residual compressive stress at the surface, giving the glass surface increased
strength.
• Due to this surface stress the glass is resistant to scratch and crack progression
