Notes de l'éditeur
We decided to choose two quotes from John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural Speech. The first, “The World is very different now” speaks to the ever-changing society that we live in, that is constantly evolving with technology.
The second, “seek to invoke the wonders of science” speaks to allowing the integration of science into our lives with our careers, in order to utilize all that science has to offer and all that it can do.
According to John Maeda’s 2018 Design in Tech Report, 88% of designers surveyed believe that it will be at least 5 years or more until visual designers are replaced by AI.
However, it seems much more likely that in at least five years, designers will be regularly collaborating with AI.
The book Machine/Platform/Crowd by Andrew McAfee and Erik Brynjolffson claims that in the future, humans won’t design as they had previously, but will instead be chiefly responsible for feeding the appropriate data into a super-smart design machine. This goes against the reasons most people choose to be designers, but Ken Gordon advises that designers should not fear this due to another article.
It seems much more reasonable to say that in at least five years, designers will be regularly using—or, if you prefer—collaborating with AI. An example of this is “data friendship.” The integration of AI into our professional lives might redefine what makes for a good and valuable and employable designer.
Gordon advises readers to find ways of getting your hands on these advanced technologies and learn to use them. Make for yourself an adaptive mindset.

Bots are taught/ trained to overgeneralize, and therefore has falsely inflated the crime and race ratio. There are new propositions that are trying to reduce the computer-based bias.

This is the follow up article, and kind of shows how they (the bots) act like a baseline/ a fundamental that professionals can use to speed up the process, and decrease the room for error by having an automated machine
Haley - Sameer Maskey’s article for Forbes entitled AI for humanity: Using AI to make a positive impact in developing countries explains how AI can help with sustainability which is increasingly important with our growing population. One of the quotes we pulled from this article is that “Farmers monitor crops more effectively and make better predictions on planting, weeding and harvesting using AI tools”. This is one example of how AI can be used for sustainability in the future.
Haley - A second quote is that “When duly adopted, AI can positively impact our everyday lives not just in disaster intervention, education, health care and agriculture but can also help in mitigating poverty, malnutrition and pollution”. In this article Maskey demostrates how AI has been used to positively help her rural community in Nepal after a disaterous earthquake. However, with the help of AI her community was able to recover. This shows that there is an unlimited potential for what AI can be used for in increasing sustainability and wellbeing of call people throughout the world.
