What’s up everybody, my name is Tony Bacigalupo aka @tonybgoode, And I’m going to talk about how to rawk karaoke. I’m from New York, the home of TechKaraoke And I run New Work City, an awesome coworking space in Manhattan
Who are you singing for? You can sing for yourself, or you can sing for the crowd. We’re going to talk about the latter.
At SXSW, I won the Cogaoke competition A competition which was dominated by NYC and Philly Geoff DiMasi caught an inflatable guitar I threw into the audience and my favorite moment was when he jumped up and down like a child when he caught it
So, how do you get awesome at karaoke? I'll tell you gigantic text slide, Perspective. Karaoke means tone deaf. Keep in mind: voice doesn't matter. Anyone can rock karaoke. Nothing matters except having fun.
Karaoke is not American Idol And there’s a good chance you are not as good as you think you are You do not want to sound like this:
Some songs you should never sing in any context “ I keep on fallin…”
Now we’ve got our song in mind- let’s talk about timing.
Know your song. Nobody wants to see you read a screen And certainly nobody wants to see you try to figure out how to sing the bridge because you totally forgot that part You don't have to nail it-- screwing up words here and there can make it funnier
This is a rare one among karaokers and I think very important if you really want to rock a crowd
Get into it! You are not going to rock karaoke if you spend the instrumental breaks like this: (stand boringly)
