• Assemble the type and quality of material and special equipment needed for daily procedures and
possible emergencies.
• Respond to surgical emergency equipments such as cardiac, pulmonary or respiratory failure and
hemorrhage
• Maintain open communication lines to provide for total needs of the patients
• Consult with the operating surgeon, establishes priorities of care for each patient entering the
operating suite.
• Confer with surgeons on procedures concerning instruments, sutures and equipment, assuring all
prescribed equipment is present and functional
• Circulate and srcrub for surgical procedures
As a Circulating Nurse:
• Prepares and ready the Operating Room
• Positions patient properly on the Operating Room table
• Performs the skin preparation of the patient
• Assist the anaesthesiologist
• Anticipates the need of surgical team
• Accomplish forms and records
• Count sponges, sharps and instruments accurately
• Keep the room clean and tidy
• Collect and label specimen correctly
• See to it that all equipments are in good working condition
• Help in application of dressing
• Provide immediate post-op care
• Disconnect and care for all special equipment
• Conduct patient safety to the recovery room
• Assist in cleaning, rearranging and preparing the room for the next case
As a Scrub Nurse:
• Before the operation, perform surgical scrub using the accepted techniques.
• Open sterile packs and set correctly
• Set-up the sterile table correctly

As a Delivery Room Nurse:
• Care for women in labor
• Care for women who have recently delivered
• Work with doctors and midwives to help create a plan of care for both mother and the
baby
• Monitor and record vital signs of labor patients
• Monitor fetal heart tone and informs Attending Physicians for any abnormalities
• Monitor progress of labor
• Assist in transferring labor patient to Delivery Room
• Give intravenous and intramascular medication during labor and delivery
• Render post-partum care
• Transfer post-partum patients to recovery room
• Instruct the mother to massage uterus as needed
• Instruct the mother on proper care to ensure healing of the perineum
As a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse:
• Receive patient from outgoing nurse for continuity of care
• Assess patient’s condition
• Monitor vital signs until stable
• Assess for bleeding of the operative site
• Provide actual nursing
• Reassure patient and consciousness is regained
• Orient patient to time and surroundings
• Monitor intravenous fluids and/or blood transfusion
• If connected to any gadget check for its proper functioning
• Assess for consciousness and response to stimuli and stability of vital signs
