1. CELEBRATIONS
 Debt Balance as of July 17: $124,928.
 Our youth had a wonderful church camp experience this year.
 Larry, Cindy, and Daniel Uhrick had an inspiring experience in Guatemala
working with Mayan Families and connecting with children supported by the
Shiloh community.
 Mary Ohanian celebrated her 90th birthday July 10.
 Andy and Jo Anderson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July 10.
 Lou and Marilyn Gladish celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July 23.
 Congratulations to Luke and Michelle Keusch on the birth of Laurel
Catherine born June 26.
 Our children (and adults) had a wonderful Vacation Bible School
experience.
 Thank you to the many, many volunteers who have donated 1000’s of
hours to prepare the children’s education wing/PromiseLand Preschool
area for the first day of class (August 17).

2. Pastor’s August Article
I sent a note off to the District Superintendent last week sharing all the things that have been taking place this summer at
Shiloh. It is a long list. Let me summarize what I shared with the Superintendent with a little commentary/detail.
The first day of class for PromiseLand Preschool is Monday, August 17. We are on track to have everything in place at
that time. We have doubled our room capacity and can take on more students. (Help us spread the word.)
Preschool staffing is complete. Miss Jill (Director), Miss Donna (Teacher), Miss Carla (Assistant), Miss Lindsey (Teacher)
and Miss Amber (Assistant) anticipate an exceptional year with new curriculum and a renewed spirit of enthusiasm for
learning.
Virtually every aspect of the west wing has been cleaned, sorted, painted and/or refurbished. PromiseLand Preschool is
now a registered ministry. We are faith-based. We are working on becoming certified on the paths to quality. Thank you
seems inadequate for so many of you who have spent countless volunteer hours preparing the west wing of the church for
the opening day of preschool.
As you will notice several places in the newsletter, the debt balance stands at just under $125,000. AMAZING! I am
confident we will reach our goal (with God’s grace) by October in anticipation of celebrating Miracle Sunday December 6.
It will be an amazing celebration. Thank you to all of you who have given sacrificially to get us to this place.
We received word July 21 our grant application has been approved for $15,000 from the Center for Congregations. The
CfC’s mission is to strength and support congregations throughout the state of Indiana. The grant will be used to purchase
materials that support the preschool curriculum. An anonymous donor contributed Shiloh’s match to this grant.
A new Yamaha Clavinova digital piano has been purchased for the second service. It was delivered July 22. It will greatly
enhance the music quality of the worship experience in the Family Life Center. This keyboard was donated by a church
member.
We have also received an anonymous donation to help pay for the refurbishing expenses to the west wing beyond the initial
$5,000 provided by the Trustees. Another individual donation covered the cost of the vinyl in two classrooms.
Beyond all of the above, a donation has been made to establish a discretionary fund for the pastors. 4C’s out of Evansville
(who will work with us through the certification process) is donating additional funds for some of the equipment required
for the preschool area not covered by the Center for Congregation grant. The state fire marshal has made his inspection of
the preschool area and with a few minor requirements, we are qualified to open the preschool on August 17.
The Uhrick’s are back from Guatemala. They had an amazing time. Larry solidified our connection with Mayan Families.
He is excited and inspired. You will have a chance to hear his testimony on August 9.
It has also been an amazing summer for our youth from church camp to VBS to the “How Well Are You Without Water?”
camp-out shared with the Loogootee youth.
There have been challenges this summer. Not everything has been roses. The General Fund is $15,000 in the red but that
is so much better than $60,000 in the red one year ago.
I don’t know if you can feel it in my writing but a spirit of excitement is being felt throughout the church. God is good.
We have been and continue to be blessed. It is an amazing time to be involved in the church.

3. FAREWELL
As of July 12th I left my staff position with Children’s Ministry at Shiloh. I have enjoyed directing the Children’s
Ministry for the last four years more than I can say. The children, parents, teachers and the ministry they do
together will remain in my prayers. May God bless the children as they learn to trust Him! I look forward to
returning to the Shiloh family in worship and fellowship.

probably the hardest part of this new move. Shiloh UMC is a great and loving church. We look forward to creating

WELCOME
We want to introduce to you Jill Harrison, the new Director of PromiseLand Preschool. Jill was the former
director of the YMCA daycare/preschool program in Vincennes. She resides in Vincennes with her husband
John. Jill began her work with PromiseLand Preschool on July 6. Since that time she has hired two additional
staff to the preschool (Amber Gudorf as an assistant and Lindsey Leidgen as a lead teacher). Jill has spent
much of her time updating policies and procedures in anticipation of the first day of preschool on August 17.
Welcome, Jill!
We also welcome a familiar face to the second service. Courtney Heberer has been hired to lead the praise band in the second
service. You probably know Courtney through the early service in a more traditional worship setting. Courtney also has a
contemporary music side most of us did not know. We look forward to all that Courtney will bring to the second worship
experience. Hello again, Courtney.
TITLE CHANGE
Because of a change in job responsibilities, the Staff Parish Committee has modified Pastor Paul’s job title. It is now listed as
“Administrative/Counseling Pastor”. Pastor Paul’s responsibilities have been expanded to include supervision of the staff.
Pastor Paul will continue to provide counseling as he has done in the past.
Since the June newsletter printing Teri Norris has resigned as Director of the Children’s Ministries. She has worked with our
children’s programs including PromiseLand Preschool for several years. Teri will continue with Club 56 through the end of
August. As you see her around the church, offer a word of thanks for her years of service and devotion to Shiloh.
Jack Cartwright has resigned his position as leader of the praise band in the second service. Jack has been involved with mu-
sic around Shiloh for many years including the Saturday night service, the contemporary service Sunday morning and many
special services beyond the normal worship schedule. Jack is a talented musician and we have been blessed. Thank you Jack
for your music and all that you added to worship at Shiloh these many years.
Our sympathies are extended to the families of Edwin Kempf (who passed on June 27)
and Jill Harrison (Auretta Cave’s sister, who passed on July 17th).

Charge Conference
A special charge conference will be held August 17
during the Administrative Council meeting to
recommend Pastor Paul in his certification process for
ministry.
Volunteers Needed
Are you computer literate, reliable, and willing to
learn? Are you looking for a volunteer position that
only requires a commitment once or twice a
month? Shiloh needs volunteers who are willing to
rotate with other Audio-Visual Techs during the 8:45
service and/or act as a back-up for the 10:45 service
and special events.

It is TGIW time!!! TGIW begins August 26 with a
meal, followed by opportunities for learning from
our youngest to those who are young-at-heart and
everyone in-between. A delicious meal will be
served each Wednesday at 5:30 PM. Following the
meal, classes will be held for Kindergarten through
high school and adult.

5. The JOY group was held in the
Shiloh Dining Room in July and
had thirty-three members present.
A delicious fried chicken and roast
pork dinner was catered by Sanders
for all of us to enjoy. Lou and
Marilyn Gladish, along with Mike
and Carol Dooley, were our hosts
for the evening. Following the
meal, a dialogue between God and
St. Francis was presented by Mike
and Lou. It had all of us laughing!
We then divided into five teams for
a “Name That President” game led
by Marilyn. The winning teams
were the Elephants (led by Scott
Norris) and the Dogs (led by Vickie
Van Camp).
On August 11th, the JOY Group
will go to “The Patio” in Tell City.
For this month only the
“kids” (adults under 55) will be
invited. After dinner and a short
program at the restaurant, we’ll
tour the Help Build Hope/Habitat
Home that was built for Heather
Cooper last fall on the Shiloh
parking lot.

What do we need to know
about preschool enrollment?
 To join the 3-4 Year Old Class, a child must be 3 by
August 1st. We currently have openings in our
Monday and Wednesday afternoon classes.
 To join the 4-5 Year Old Class, a child must be 4 by
August 1. Classes are available for mornings or
afternoons, Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday
and Thursday. 4-5 Year Olds can also opt for an ad-
ditional Friday class.
 There is a $35 non-refundable registration fee to
reserve your child’s spot.
 Tuition for two-day classes is $75/month plus a one-
time snack fee of $35.
 Tuition for three-day classes is $110/month plus a
one-time snack fee of $45.

This summer has been full of great youth activities,
and I would like to thank all of the adults who have
made these events possible. For me, the most
meaningful events have been the #HowWellRU
Campout and That Thing Camp at Epworth Forest.
The campout gave us a taste of what it’s like to live
in an impoverished area of Guatemala, and helped
the senior class raise over $1,000 for the clean-
water well they plan to have built in Guatemala!
Although I’ve often heard about how phenomenal
That Thing camp is, I didn’t understand the impact it
makes on our kids until I experienced it for myself.
We were blessed to share a cabin with Loogootee
UMC and Mishawaka First UMC where we quickly
formed a family bond with one another. At That
Thing I saw students overcome their fears, pray
with and encourage each other, worship the Lord
with complete joy and abandon, and step out of
their comfort zone to try new things. I was
personally blessed to be able to pray with students
in our cabin and at the alter during worship. Being
able to participate in that type of ministry with the
students was profound. If you’d like to keep up with

Cindy Uhrick visited with the families of 5 students while in Guatemala. Building relationships with the
Mayan Families is her mission for Shiloh. Cindy is very effective at sharing God’s gift of love with these
families. Cindy is also willing to attend your SS Class or Bible study and answer any questions.
Daniel is also building relationships. He helped in selecting the food to be presented to the families and
also spent time building relationships with the children.
Larry did not get to build the crane as he had
planned, but he did have a great experience. God
had another plan. We often pray for God’s will, but
somehow we seek to do our own. Larry will tell his
story and show slides August 9th in our worship ser-
vices. Plan to attend!
