This presentation is to share with you how a drop became an ocean, how an idea turn into a grand reality. How a sole traveller made it “Karvaan”. My views and expressions are not to disturb or criticize anybody, the only and only purpose of this presentation is just to describe our tiny efforts which took shape of a wonderful and remarkable, historical event. AND REALLY WE COULD PROVE THAT “TOGATHER WE CAN MAKE DIFFERENCE”
After Diwali as a routine I called Bhavesh Mithiya and asked him when is is coming to visit Ahmedabad, he answered that not only him but we all should plan for some sort of gathering and meet. So I really gave it a serious thought, I called up Dr. Dhaval Shah in Ahmedabad and after greeting for Diwali, I asked him if he is interested in such meet, if at all we can plan. He was the first person who delightedly accepted the call and told me to meet for the same. The thought remained silent for a month, during which I kept on asking Dr. Safi, Dr. Amir, Dr. Mukesh on phone regarding the matter. Unanimously everyone agreed upon.
Now, the actual picture has to begin. I planned a rough design about how to form the meet and how the program should be. So, on Dec, 07 2010, at around 10 PM we decided to meet at Karnavati club Ahmedabad. I be there at 10 sharp, Safi was already waiting for me there, I showed him my idea and outline. He just got impressed(!!!! I think so…). After half an hour Dharmesh came and then after 10-15 mins Dhaval also joined us. We talked for almost 3 hours there till 1:30. We come to a conclusion that the Idea is brilliant, and so decided that we should talk to others in Ahmedabad about the same . Also decided that first we will have a meet of the hosts (All Ahmedabadi doctors) will have their consent and then will proceed. So, with that positive note we departed, wishing Safi compliments for her wife on her birthday (Which was on 08/12/2010)
Next meet was at Rajpath again at 10:30 PM. Amir was added and also came Mukesh. We had a long talk about where to have the meet of hosts and how to frame that. We started gathering contacts from all our phone books and began calling them for the meet. Everyone gladly agreed for the meet and so the date was decided to be 19 th December 2010. For venue we searched for many options. Mukesh volunteered for his Brother-in-law’s bunglow as well as agreed to sponsor event the food. As the caterer arrangement and all was getting a bit tidy and at the same time we got an offer from Amir for “Angan Garden restaurant” with very good rate. We all just bang on its selection. Thanks Mukesh for the volunteerness.
The meet was scheduled to be from 4 to 7 on Sunday evening considering everyone can be free for personal family commitment after 7:30 approximately. Dhaval was the first to be there, he kept on calling me (Probably he was afraid that he was the only one there, so should not sound funny as we had committed to the party plot guy for almost 100 people). I could join him at around 4:45 PM. We both were a bit nervous of having a flop show in the beginning. But then came Manish, and Amir and Mukesh and Safi and so on, in no time the ground was filled with known people with some sort of hesitant feeling because many of us had changed so much, it was difficult to identify. By 6:30 the crowd was full on its peak, everyone including family members were thoroughly enjoying the meet, puppet show was on at one corner, intro session on the other corner. Safi volunteered with his camera and photography skills for taking pics. Had nice dinner,. Everybody agreed for the gala meet in January end or February. (Date was not finalized then)
Voluntarily Me, Safi, Amir, Dhaval, Dharmesh, Mukesh and Saurabh decided to take up the task of organizing the event. So we kept on meeting almost once every week, mostly at night when people used to sleep after 10:00 or sometimes even 11:00. But there was no deficit of enthusiasm. We actually used to have lots of difference of opinion, Amir insisted for an event starting from Saturday evening lasing till late night , so that every can return back to home on Sunday morning. But others refused for the same, considering the winter. We first decided the date of 13 th feb, and then started searching for the place. We all activated our resources and contacts (Which actually was not there at all.) First came the proposal of Anmol village on Ahmedabad-Dakor Highway Dhaval and me went there at 2:00PM the place 34 far from city, though liked by us, others were not happy with the same and insisted to find options. And one day few suggestions from other colleagues came for “Starz club” on Kadi highway. So, we decided to have a look at that. It was 11 PM, we meet at Rajpath club (Me, Dhaval, Dharmesh and Amir). Decided to go to the place at that time. We went there in the midnight and almost in half sleepy manner move-around in the club with that unfortunate manager (because he also had to come with us to show the entire club). We saw the club with full interest as we liked, we thought of testing the food, so woke up the chef and ordered him some food. The food was good, the ambience appeared to be wonderful the play area and hall and conference room and other requirements of ours were up to the mark. So in the night only we all voted for that and came back to Ahmedabad at around 2:00 AM. Now, the date was fixed, venue was final. So the later part of planning was to make budget. After checking all the necessary events and expenses for those events we come to a conclusion of having Rs. 3500/- as contribution from each family. We thought it to be quite acceptable amount for the practicing doctors. So, then we concentrated on calling them as well as getting further contacts from them. Me and Safi went to BJMC to have a video and photo shoot for the virtual tour.(Thanks Kaushik for the permission which you receive for us from Dean sir.)
We started calling people for the event . There was undoubtedly positive response from almost everyone (Except few people who prefer not to be in any social gathering). We could get many numbers from the contacts we all had. The number kept on increasing. We were so delighted for the event.
Then came the question of sending money. We started accessing different banks, finally HDFC people agreed to share an account to us. So, we officially on paper form the association of “BJMCABD90…Karvaan”, opened an account on its name. Form a constitution of the same (Dhaval being President, Safi being Vice-President, Amir being Secretory, Mukesh, Dharmesh and Saurabh been joint secretory and me being treasurer). Also a blog is formed for the same to have some thought sharing before event (Unfortunately very few of us have really taken the advantage of the same.)
But then in last ten days we started getting horrible, unbelievable response from some of our friends regarding contribution. People started refusing to come for the event because they were finding it to be very expensive. Absolutely shocking…… We all got a bit dishearten. From the beginning we were sure not to take any sort of sponsorship from anyone as the contribution amount was not very high (!!!!) But then those who were close started accessing their sponsors. (Thanks a lot Dimple-Dr. Dimple Patel- and Dharmesh for the support you have given.) Last moment we thought to change not only the venue but almost entire program got changed. We had planned to have a game jockey for the entire day for all of us (The event was planned for the entire day) which was cancelled. The contribution was by all means brought down to Rs.2500/- Then again we started calling people, many of them agreed to come. We were not sure, but still we thought of going ahead.
And finally the day came. And the scenario was absolutely astonishing in the morning. From 9:00 to 11:00 we were just hugging each others, absolutely joyous, so delighting that we forgot everything. We felt that we are in BJMC campus and we all are 20 years younger. Everybody was having so deep and touchy feeling on their face that other was able to persive. Rest is all known to you.
But on the last note I would loudly want to thank few people from the deepest of my heart. First I would like to thank all the family members of ours who have given such wonderful support all throughout these 2 months that we could consistently and concentratedly work for this noble cause. All my committee member friends who have worked equally hard with me but have declared it to be y success, and in no way I want to get credited alone for this. Dr. Dimple Patel & Dr. Dharmesh Vora for helping in raising finance. Dr. Tushar Patel for helping in getting access to the Cambay spa & resorts with ease in last moment. Regional coordinators who continuously kept on raising our moral. Mr. Shashikant Vaghela-who has done the beautiful photography of the college and equally beautifully he has presented it as a movie, which took us straight a way to the doorstep of BJMC. HDFC Bank for allowing us to open an account with ease. Cambay Spa & Resorts, for providing the services with such a short notice. All of you who have made this event an absolutely live and wonderful and memorable.
