Job Responsibilities in DHS and EY
As a Team Member - Direct Taxation took active part in various assignments involving:
Compliance support:
§ Preparation and filing of Income tax and wealth tax returns including preparation of return
memo, notes to computation and mutually accepted positions.
§ Review of provision for tax workings for various clients and mining potential opportunities on
the tax front.
Representation services:
§ Representation before various Income Tax Authorities in connection with assessments and
reassessments proceedings, revisionary proceedings, rectification applications, penalty
submissions, stay petitions, refund follow ups, etc.
§ Preparation and filing of “Objections to the draft assessment order” in Form No. 35A before
the DRP along with various submissions from time to time.
2. § Drafting and filing of appeal papers along with detailed notes on arguments for submissions
before the CIT(A) and Hon’ble ITAT.
§ Assistance in conducting research on various judicial precedents to be filed before the
Honourable Karnataka High Court (“HC”) and liaising with the counsel in the course of
hearings before the Honourable HC for one of our most esteemed clients.
§ Representation before the Income-tax authorities including CIT (TDS) in connection with
obtaining a certificate under section 197 of the Income-tax Act, 1961 (“the Act”).
Advisory services:
§ Drafted a memo on the applicability of section 32AC of the Act – ‘Accelerated depreciation on
investments’ to the facts of one of our clients.
§ Assisted in providing a comparative analysis between a STPI and a SEZ unit and the
applicability of formative conditions to the facts of the client.
§ Drafted memos on various withholding tax issues such as TDS on reimbursement of medical
expenses to consultant, TDS on lottery scheme, TDS on payments to resorts/hotels etc.
§ Drafted a note on various funding options available with a foreign holding company to
provide funds to the Indian subsidiary.
§ Prepared an opinion on claim of depreciation on certain intangible assets (including goodwill)
acquired in the course of slump sale.
§ Assisted in conducting a PE (Permanent Establishment) study for marketing support services
rendered by an Indian subsidiary to its foreign holding company.
Assistance in connection with Research & Development services [Section 35(2AB) related]
§ As a team member of “Weighted deduction on expenditure on Research and Development”,
took active part in providing end to end support in obtaining approval from the DSIR for
various esteemed clients.
§ Internal Tax Alerts on various judicial precedents for circulation to clients.
§ Preparation of various proposals in connection with tax services for potential clients.
§ Ensuring due compliance of the independence and risk management procedures before
proceeding with an engagement.
§ Actively involved in preparing the summary of various services rendered to clients for raising
of invoices on a timely basis.
§ Received appreciation e-mail from the client (one of India’s leading information technology
company) for enabling them to obtain weighted deduction under section 35(2AB) of the Act
from the DSIR (leading to tax savings of more than INR 60 crores per annum).
§ Received appreciation from the team for successfully obtaining an order from the AO to
release the attachment of bank account for one of the clients.
