A. Most Essential Learning Competency: Identify and discuss the

Stories have four basic elements such as theme, setting,
characters and events.
Theme refers to the main idea or topic of the story.
This tells the lesson of the story.
Example:
There is a time for work
and a time for play.
Little friends may prove
to be great friends.
Setting is the place where the story happens and the time
when it happens. The setting answers the questions of where
and when.

Once in a small barrio, a farmer had a good hen that
laid a golden egg every day. The egg provided just enough
money for the farmer and his wife for their day-to-day needs.
They were happy for a long time. But one day, the farmer got
an idea. He thought, “Why should I take just one egg a day?
Why can’t I take all of them at once and make a lot of
money?” The foolish farmer’s wife agreed and decided to cut
the hen’s stomach open for all the eggs. As soon as they killed
the poor bird and opened its stomach, all they found were its
internal organs; not one single egg.
