2. Short Film Survey
For my primary research I conducted a survey so as to help us decide the kind of short film we were going to
create. Besides carrying out secondary research individual secondary research into short film history and codes
and conventions. My main task was initial pre production was to carry out primary research in the shape of a
questionnaire. In order to successfully conduct this type of research i have used existing market research online
facilitator Survey Monkey. The main purpose of this type of initial research was to identify potential target
audience as well as to outline their knowledge and understanding in regards to short films. This type of
identifications are crucial in defining the film genre we could possibly produce and at the same time this researh
gave us input into the types of marketing and strategies we should use in order to successfully promote our final
outcome .
3. The results of my primary research showed that
my target audience is diverse in age with a
majority of the audience being under 18 and 18 to
24 years old
Furthermore, there is an equal number of
men and women in the audience,
meaning that our film should be relatable
to both men and women.
4. This question helped me know the
length of my film, as I would not want to
make a film that will be too long or too
short for my audience.
This straightforward question gave us
the incentive that most people do enjoy
watching a short film for a variety of
reasons and therefore we are certain
that our film would reach our desired
audience in a variety of ways
5. I asked this question so
that i would know which
aspect mattered most to
my audience.
My research showed that
my audience firstly cared
about the general topic of
the film, secondly about it
including an unexpected
plot twist and lastly, about a
unique storyline.
6. Next, i asked my audience the
type of genre which they
found most appealing, this
showed me the kind of genre i
should make.
This question results showed
me that most people preferred
comedy and drama over other
genres however, showed a
slight preference for the
adventure drama
7. This next question was asked
so that i could understand my
viewers’ reasons to watch a
short film. This will help me
understand how to produce
and direct the movie.
The question revealed that
most of my audience
watched films that either
informed or sent a message
and some watched films for
the sake of the story.
8. I was curious to know about
which way my audience found
out about these short films so
that I would be able to market
my film in the ideal way.
My research showed me that
most people found out about
short films from their family
and friends, some from social
media and a few from
newspapers and magazines.
9. To further understand how to market my
films I asked my audience how they liked to
watch short films and if they went to film
festivals, along which specifying which
festivals they go to.
My questions showed that most of my viewers
prefer watching short films online, some prefer
watching on social media while few had other
methods which they later specified.
Furthermore, the results also showed that
majority of people went to film festivals
