This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the dental implant process, including risks associated with tooth loss, dental implant candidacy, benefits of dental implants, implant placement process and more.
2. ORAL HEALTH RISKS ASSOCIATED
WITH MISSING TEETH
Failure to replace missing teeth can increase your
risk of the following oral health issues:
• Tooth shifting -- Adjacent teeth may shift to fill
in the space left by the missing tooth, leading to
bite alignment issues.
• Gum disease -- Missing teeth can increase your
risk of gum disease down the road.
• Bone deterioration -- Your tooth's root performs
many roles, including stimulating the jawbone.
Failure to replace the root can therefore result in
bone deterioration in your jaw. Only dental
implants will replace the root along with the
missing tooth.
• Tooth loss -- The bone deterioration and gum
disease commonly caused by missing teeth will
increase the likelihood that additional teeth will fall
out over time.
Dental implants are the most effective tooth
replacement option to address all of these serious
oral health risks.
3. WHAT ARE DENTAL
IMPLANTS?
• Consist of 3 parts: titanium screw (implant),
titanium rod (abutment) and dental crown
(your new prosthetic tooth)
• Most effective tooth replacement option
• Only permanent solution to replace missing
teeth
• Placed into the jawbone in order to replace
the missing root as well as the missing tooth
• Can withstand all normal bite forces and
allow you to eat all your favorite foods
4. WHY GET DENTAL
IMPLANTS?
PERMANENT RESTORATION
Dental implants provide a permanent tooth
replacement solution that will last a lifetime when
properly cared for.
PREVENTS BONE LOSS
By replacing the missing tooth root, dental implants
stimulate bone growth and eliminate the risk of
jawbone deterioration that typically occurs after you
lose a tooth. This will help preserve the shape of
your face and prevent the development of a sunken
facial appearance.
IMPROVED CONVENIENCE
Eliminates many of the hassles associated with
dentures such as slipping, which creates problems
speaking and chewing, and the need to remove your
restoration every night.
5. AM I A DENTAL IMPLANT
CANDIDATE?
Ideal dental implant candidates:
• Are missing one or more teeth
• Are in good overall health
• Do not suffer from gum disease
• Have sufficient jawbone structure to
accommodate the dental implant
• Do not have bite alignment issues
• Do not smoke or are willing to quit smoking
for the duration of the procedure
• Are not taking any medications which may
negatively impact bone healing
• Are willing to commit to the lengthy dental
implant process, which may take over 6
months to complete
If you don't have sufficient jawbone density
to accommodate the implant, Dr. Binon may
be able to perform a bone graft in order for
you to undergo the dental implant
procedure.
6. IMPLANT PLACEMENT
DENTAL IMPLANT PROCESS
Dr. Binon will use 3D imaging to
ensure the placement of your
dental implant in your jawbone
is done with the highest degree
of precision. In some instances,
a bone graft may be required
prior to implant placement. It
will take 3-6 months for your
bone to heal after implant
placement.
ABUTMENT ATTACHED
Once your implant has fully
fused with your jawbone, Dr.
Binon will connect a small
titanium rod, called an
abutment, to the dental
implant. An impression will be
taken of your teeth and sent to
the lab for use in construction
of your prosthetic tooth.
PROSTHETIC TOOTH PLACED
A dental crown will be custom-
crafted by the dental lab to be
used as your prosthetic tooth.
Once it has been constructed,
Dr. Binon will attach the crown
to the abutment. At this point,
you'll be able to enjoy a fully
functional replacement tooth..
7. After Dr. Binon inserts the dental implant
into your jaw, there is a 3-6 month healing
process. During this time, the implant will
fuse with your jawbone, making it a fully
functional tooth root. This process, called
osseointegration, must be completed
before the abutment is attached.

8. MINI DENTAL IMPLANTS
A series of mini dental implants strategically placed
around your jawbone can help accommodate a large
number of replacement teeth. It also makes dental
implants an option for many individuals who aren't
suitable candidates for traditional dental implants.
BONE-ANCHORED BRIDGES
A fixed dental bridge that replaces an entire arch of
teeth which is supported by a series of dental
implants. The implants allow the bridge to be
permanently anchored to your jaw.
IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURES
Can be used with either removable or fixed dentures.
Dental implants support the restoration in order to
make it more secure than traditional dentures.
