Andrew Valenski & Curt Bynum's 2019 presentation at the Esri User Conference in San Diego, CA. This presentation covers the implementation challenges, considerations and lessons-learned from developing, architecting and implementing the largest Enterprise GIS in the Southeast US, consisting of over 100 servers and servicing over 100,000 customers.

4. LOJIC and GTG partnered in
late 2017 to begin the
process of designing and
implementing a world-class
Web GIS to meet LOJIC’s
current and future needs.
The Louisville/Jefferson County Information
Consortium (LOJIC) represents a multi-agency GIS
partnership among:
Louisville Metro Government
Jefferson Property Valuation Administrator
Louisville Water Company
Louisville Metro Sewer District
Geographic Technologies Group (GTG)
is a GIS consulting & strategic planning firm
that specializes in delivering outstanding
results to governments and governmental
organizations across the world.
5. UNDERSTANDING OUR GIS LANDSCAPE
Legacy GIS (10.2) in Place
Running ArcGIS 10.2 suite,
supported by Oracle RDMSs and
relatively “fragile.”
High Degree of Customization
in the GIS
Many mission-critical custom apps,
tools, APIs, SOEs and ETLs in place.
Growing Internal & External GIS
Communities
Increased demand to provide more,
better and innovative GIS solutions to
customers.
Large Customer Base
Over 5,000 employees, 700,000
residents, and thousands of businesses
and organizations.
Limited GIS Support Staff
Team of nine (9) veteran GIS
professionals to support core GIS
operations.
Longtime Commitment to GIS across
the Organization
On premise GIS was introduced in mid-
1980s using Esri products for the
consortium.
Dependent on IT Support
Reliant on a partner agency for IT
services, support and system
maintenance.
Significant Geodata Footprint
Multiple enterprise geodatabases, several thousand spatial
datasets, versioned editing and critical dependencies on these
data.

7. WELCOME
MESSAGE
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply
random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin
literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old.
Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-
Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more
obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum
passage, and going through the cites of the word in
classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source.

8. Phase I: Planning
Understand the requirements,
stakeholders & draft a flexible
framework.
Phase III: Design &
Implementation
Update your work-plan and begin
designing and implementing your vision.
Phase II: Current State Analysis
Thoroughly research your current system
before starting on your new system.
Phase IV: Reflection & Iteration
Reflect on the project, the GIS and
communicate this information.
