One lesson that I have learned is that the design of information has a direct effect on the retention of that information or the use of that information to develop one's skills. How is information structured and organized in its delivery? How is information displayed visually and graphically? Do graphics enhance information or distract from it? Are the visual and textual elements consistently featured throughout a document, website, or learning module?
