3. Description: To provide value-added services to its customers, Shell provides an
innovative and proactive analysis of the used lubricating oil. This service enables the
customers in not only monitoring the condition of the machinery and preventing
breakdown/failure before it occurs but also in monitoring the efficiency of the current oil as a
suitable lubricant for the machinery.
The process begins with the customer registration followed by vessel/site, equipment and
component registration in the system. On successful registration (by the customer or Shell)
customer can send the oil sample(s) drawn from the components from the sites / marine
vessels, to the lab(s). On receipt of the sample, the lab registers the sample(s), performs a
set of predefined tests on the sample(s) and sends the results to MC/Domain to which the
vessel or site is registered. The marine users or the diagnosticians at the MC/Domain
diagnose these test results and these sample reports are sent to the subscribers subscribed in
the system. The main inputs are the lubricant samples, attached information like sample
labels and the main outputs are the Sample reports.
