2. Objectives of the Working Group
• To connect all TAPAS members working in fields related to benefit-sharing/
community engagement/community development
• To promote individual research on benefit-sharing and the socio-economic
benefits and costs associated with tourism and protected
areas
• To promote collaborative research on benefit-sharing mechanisms and
best practice
• To develop guidelines on benefit-sharing and best practice when
engaging local communities in tourism and protected areas
3. Who should join?
• All those interested or working in fields related to benefit-sharing
from tourism and PAs
• All those interested in local community development and
engagement with communities living in or around conservation
areas
• Researchers and practitioners from all around the world from all
sectors, including academia, government, private sector, etc.
4. How do you join?
1) If not already a TAPAS member, join TAPAS by completing the online
application form
2) Send Sue Snyman (sues@wilderness.co.za) an email requesting to join the
Community Working Group, including the following in your email:
