Learning Objectives To know what Twitter is and to be able to Tweet. To know different slang associated with Twitter
What is Twitter?  Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. It asks the question – What are you doing? Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers.
How do you Tweet? There is no right or wring way to Tweet as long as you use the right number of characters. What is really exciting is the new language that comes from these new social network sites
Twitter Glossary  At Reply, or "@reply": A direct tweet sent to another Twitter user. Dweet: Tweet sent while drunk De-Follow – removing someone from your following list Hash Tag: The "#" sign. Allows Twitter users to group tweets by topic, making it easier to search particular conversations using Twitter Search. Link: Including a URL in your tweet. MisTweet: A tweet one later regrets. Nudge. An action reminding a user to update their status. ReTweet: To repost something that's already in the Twitter stream. Usually preceded by "RT" and "@[username]," to give credit to the original poster. SnapTweet: A tweet that includes a photo taken with a cell phone, uploaded to Flickr and posted to Twitter via snaptweet.com. Twittcrastination: Procrastination brought on by Twitter use. Twadd: To add someone as a friend or follower. Twaffic. The traffic on Twitter.
Twitter Glossary  Tweeple. Twitter users. Tweeps. Twitter followers who are your friends on multiple social networks. They are your social network peeps or posse. Tweeter/Twitterer: Someone who uses Twitter. Tweet Back. Bringing an older tweet back into the converstation TwinkedIn: Inviting friends made on Twitter to connect on LinkedIn. Twittectomy: To remove someone from the list of people you follow. Twitterati: The A-list twitterers everyone follows. Twitterfly: Twitter's version of a social butterfly, marked by the extreme use of @ signs. Twitterlooing: Twittering from the bathroom. Twitterpated: Overwhelmed with Twitter messages. Twittfeinated, Twigged Out, Twired: To be so hyped up on twittering that you cannot sleep
Not so common twerms In addition to the common terms in the Twitter glossary, it is also relatively common to throw a "Tw" in front of just about anything when it has something to do with Twitter.  If you are tweeting while walking, you are "twalking." And if you have a sweetheart on Twitter they are your "tweetheart."

To be brought back into the loop of conversation by being caught up on the tweets. Twitterphobe. Someone who is fearful or reluctant to join Twitter. Twitterphoria. Elation felt when someone you follow decides to follow you back. Twitterstream. The Twitter timeline. This can be applied to the public timeline, your friends' timeline or the timeline on a specific topic. Twittertude. A bad attitude on Twitter. Twitticisms. Witty or funny tweets.
Twitter Applications  To make your Tweeting experience better there are a number of applications for you to use. Twitpic, an app that lets users share photos on Twitter,  Tweetdeck, streamlines notifications and tweets.  Digsby an application that centralizes e-mail, IM and social networking accounts into one desktop program. Twitterfeed, offers to automatically tweet posts published on a user’s blog using RSS. A Twitter user ranking site, Twitterholic
Use Twitter for Good Quick Human Answers- Ask folks on your friend’s list which digital camera to buy for under $300 US, and you’ll get back a stream of responses. Conference / News Briefings- The last several major tech events were covered by Twitter.It can be used to report earthquakes that took news sources hours to confirm. Friendsourcing- It’s a great place to find folks to help with things.  Micro-Attention-Sharing- Lots of us use Twitter to direct folks to blog posts we’ve written, news we find needs sharing, or entertaining things we’ve found on the web Direct People to Good Causes- Twitter allows people to use their friend lists to propagate information faster, and try to draw more direct help down to a problem. Bonus- As advertised, Twitter answers the question “What are you doing?” It means that you can stay in touch with others without being intrusive. Just follow their twitters.
