Annemarie Gustava Marx
I am a Marketing & Communications Specialist with more than 15 years’ experience
in the field with a passion for strategy, projects, publications and digital
communication technology.
I am currently the Communication Specialist at the North West Development
Corporation (NWDC), the investment promotion/economic development agency for
the North West Province, where I am responsible for its communication strategy,
stakeholder communications, media relations and all the company’s digital and
social media platforms, which I have developed since taking office in 2012.
Before joining NWDC I managed the Communication Department at Impala Platinum
where I was responsible for internal and group communication. I reported directly to
both the Operational HR Executive and Implats’ Investor Relations Department,
situated at Implats’ Head Office in Illovo.

I was involved in the development and was responsible for the execution of the
communication strategy, aligning communication to the Implats business objectives. I
was responsible for managing the internal communication function, which includes
the communication department with numerous channels and staff.

 Align the corporate communication strategy, message content and channels
to the needs of the operational audience and the Implats business strategy.
 Inform and develop the internal communication strategy and internal
communication plan and campaigns.
 Be an advisor to senior management on internal communication issues.

 Manage internal communication channels such as Briefing Group System and
ITV (Impala television), ensuring a high standard of content and effectiveness
 Maintain a relevant and effective issue tracking model which identifies
pertinent communication issues and advises on appropriate interventions to
address these
 Measure the impact and effectiveness of internal operational
communications through communication audits, research projects, spot
surveys, forums and focus groups
 Empower line management to become communicative leaders and take
ownership of communication in their areas
 Manage the internal communication function by overseeing and developing
its staff and communication activities and ensuring that a high standard of
work is maintained

2004 to 2009
I was the assigned Communication Officer for Impala’s Mineral Processing Division,
responsible for all the communication needs of the division. Apart from maintaining
the division’s communication channels, I also developed a Vision & Values
campaign, a Walk the Talk drive for management and assisted in the annual World
Aids Day event.
