5. Design? Tänk inte…
• …design av programvara så som ordet används
i traditionell systemutveckling
• …formgivning
7. Triggers for Change
”The dominant trigger for initiating change in
human affairs is, today, primarily based on the
existence of a clear and immediate
understanding of a particular problem or set
of problems. Political action, professional
performance, economic decisions, social
planning, and business choices are almost
entirely justified on the grounds that life is a
set of problems requiring practical , efficient,
and effective solutions.”
8. Triggers for Change
10. Wicked Problems
• Mina förslag på översättningar:
– tame problems -> tama (eller tämjda) problem
– wicked problems -> vilda problem
11. Wicked Problems
• Design Thinking adds value to wicked
problems, but not that much value to tame
problems

14. The Ultimate Particular
• ”Design inquery is an emergent, compound
form av inquery the is inclusive of the real, the
true and the ideal.”
• ”Design action is both a journey and a
destination.”

15. Service
• Att arbeta The Design Way är att tjäna någon,
låt oss kalla denna någon för klienten
• Klienten är alltid – på något sätt – en
människa eller en grupp av människor
• Relationen till klienten måste vara ömsesidig,
jämbördig och respektfull
16. Thinking in Systems
godtycke. Därmed fungerar inte
systemgränser som en naturligt bra
utgångspunkt för analys
17. Thinking in Systems
tid, i ditt system
– Genererar det någon ny feedback?
18. Thinking in Systems
Dynamiska system med återkoppling
har den unika egenskapen
att kunna förbättra sig själva
utan yttre påverkan

21. Desiderata
• Som designer måste jag ha en uttrycklig
önskan – en intension – att förändra den
omgivning som jag befinner mig i
• Metoder som inte fungerar så bra:
– Kravinsamling: ”Vad vill ni ha? Säg det, så bygger vi
det åt er”
– Förstudier: Samla in all tillgänglig information först
22. Desiderata
• ”Need-based design is founded on the
erroneous assumption that a need or a
problem is easily discerned. The reality of
course is that needs are not clearly
understood at all.”
• “People desire to flourish and not just
survive.”
23. Desiderata
”Reactive triggers to change – such
as fear, hate, hurt, humiliation, anger,
distress, and need – drain energy and
hope from human potential.
Desiderata create energy, and hope,
fueling the generative capacity of
humans individually and collectively.”
24. Interpretation and Measurement
• ”Designers need to be able to observe,
describe, and understand the context and
environment of the design situation as
adequately as possible.”
• ”[T]he act of interpretation allows us to
observe and understand the world through
the lens of our design desiderata”
25. Imagination and Communication
• ”Design is about bringing things into the world
that have not existed before. It is about creating
the not-yet-existing”
• “Even a very restricted design situation […]
requires a certain amount of imagination to
create the right composition for that specific
situation. This means that every ultimate
particular design is envisioned through
imaginative thinking. It can never be merely
copied from a template or example”
26. ”Jeg vil dikte ett
nytt och bedre Norge”

28. Judgment
• “The ability to make solid design judgments is
often what distinguishes a stellar designer from a
mediocre one”
• Framgång är att – upprepade gånger – fatta rätt
beslut på bristfälligt underlag
• “Judgment knowledge cannot be stored in
libraries of in databases. Colleagues in controlled
experiments can’t replicate it”
• Judgment makes it possible to avoid analysis
paralysis
29. Judgment
• Bedömningar i design kräver att man – som
person – inte kompromissar med den egna
integriteten
• En designer har fullständigt personlig ansvar
för sina bedömningar. Det går inte att flytta
det ansvaret till en algoritm, metod eller
motsvarande
30. Judgment
varit inblandad i.
31. Composing and Connecting
• ”The ultimate valuation is prophesized by the
designers and verified by the real world. The
real value of a design is determined by its
success in meeting the desires of the client
and the intensions of the designers”
32. Craft and Material
• ”Competent designers devote time and
attention to developing a deep understanding
of materials as well as crafting skills”
