The document describes a student's experiment with making paper airplanes and recording the results of six test throws. For each throw, the student made a prediction about how far and how long the plane would fly based on modifications made between throws, such as adding a paper clip or adjusting the elevator flaps. The observations confirmed that these changes did impact the flight path as predicted, with adjustments like elevators facing up causing the plane to descend more quickly. Overall, the experiment showed that small alterations to a paper airplane's design can significantly influence its distance and time aloft.
4. S.L.O.FScience Lab Observation Form 1stThrow Procedure- I will create a paper airplane and launch six times. Changes will be made. ( Go to slide 5 ) Prediction- I predict It will fly far and smoothly, because there are no changes, its just a regular paper airplane. Observation- I think that maybe because that it didn’t have any changes that it flew the way it did. I back this up by my 1st throw had the shortest time aloft and distance out of all my throws.
5. S.L.O.F 2nd Throw Prediction- I think that now it will wont go as far as the first one went, because this one has a paper clip on the tip. Observation- It went somewhat farther then my first “Launch” but was in the air for .8 seconds more then the first. For The win!
6. S.L.O.F 3rd Throw Prediction- This airplane has new and approved elevators. This airplane had them down. This airplane also went the farthest out of all of them, which I find cool. Why it went the farthest? I don’t have a good idea of why it went that far. Observation- After comparing data from other throws I realized that this may have went the farthest because, I threw it gently which allowed it to go far, activating the elevators to keep it up so it glided farther.
7. S.L.O.F 4th Throw Prediction-This one is going to go long and smoothly. Elevators will make it go far ( explanation in previous slide) and the paper clip will keep it balanced. The paper clip should level it out, because I added a bunch of led on the back. Observation- This airplane went followed the prediction.
8. S.L.O.F 5th Throw Prediction-This one wont be in air for a long time. Why? It has elevators up which will make it go to the ground quicker. Observation- This throw lived to itself by doing exactly what I wanted.
9. S.L.O.F 6th Throw Prediction- This will be the worse yet, it has a paperclip and elevators up. They will just bring it down. Observation- And yet like the last 3 it did just as I wanted. This concluded that elevators can mess up your airplane!
On the first throw we had no changes. On the second we added a paper clip. On the third throw we put down the elevators. Finally on the fourth throw we put the elevators down and added a paper clip
