nutraceuticals industry
What is it?
An analysis based on genetic and phenotypic assays for strain safety assessment and strain
characterization in relation to health claims.
What does it do?
It can include complete genome sequencing, assembly and annotation for analysis of whole
DNA content and/or gene specific assays targeted on key molecular markers.
When is it needed?
In the development of the new products based on microbial strains, for selection of best per-
forming candidate strains and for regulatory compliance.
Genomic assessment
What is it?
A genetic analysis for the identification of strains based on comparison with reference strains
(e.g. master cell bank) genetic profile.
What does it do?
Using DNA fingerprinting technology, it allows to prove the identity and genetic stability of
isolates by comparison of their genetic profile obtained with different approaches of mole-
cular characterization.
When is it needed?
> For the validation of product batches;
> During process optimization projects, in order to track back a source of contamination;
> In order to monitor outsourced manufacturing;

4. What is it?
A service for the screening of collection strains, or selection of new strains and backup de-
posit.
What does it do?
Microbion has a vast collection of lactic acid bacteria and yeast, which is constantly increa-
sing, where you can find your next probiotic strain. In accordance with a Material Transfer
Agreement, Microbion can manage your safe-deposit procedure at the International Depo-
sitory Authorities and also store your strains, or any microbial isolate, in our facility in order
to keep them viable for later use.
When is it needed?
During product development for the selection of novel strains. It can provide also compliance
with regulatory guidelines when reference sample need to be stored for a long time.
In addition to the authentication service it is the ideal solution in case of contamination of
loss of industrial strains.
What is it?
A program for the development of diagnostic methods and protocols designed specifically on
your strain or product formulation.
What does it do?
According with the customer need, Microbion can develop new innovative analytical proto-
col or adapt current ones to achieve the best performance with specific strains and specific
formulations including complex food products.
When is it needed?
It is extremely helpful in the design of clinical trials, in order to unambiguously distinguish
your strains from competitors and natural occurring ones.
