2. What is Internet?
A global computer network is providing a variety
of information and communication facilities,
consisting of interconnected networks using
standardized communication protocols.

3. Prior to 1969
1958 – After USSR launched Sputnik, first
artificial earth satellite. US started a research
project on connecting the computers together with
packet switched networks.
1961 – Leonard Kleinrock, MIT graduate published
his first work on packet switching.
1964 – Independent work started in RAND
Institute and National Physics Laboratory on
packet switching.
1966 – Lawrence Roberts, proposed a overall plan
of ARPANET.
1968 – 4 nodes was created
1. UCLA (Network Measurement)
2. SRI (Stanford Research Institute –
Network Information)
3. UCSB ( Interactive Mathematics)

center)5/14/2017 3
5. Evolution of internet
1970 - First cross – country link was
installed by AT & T between UCLA and BBN
at 56kbps.
1971 – Ray Tomlinson of BBN writes first
email application.
1972 – Robert Kahn gives first
demonstration of ARPANET at ICCC.

1983 - ARPANET was split into ARPANET
and MILNET to carry defence related
activities.

Microsoft.
In 1998, the domain google.com was
registered.

launched.5/14/2017 7
8. Recent Inventions – Cloud Computing
It is a term used to describe technology that will
replace how we currently use our computer and
software applications.
It allows users to have access to applications
that they would not have. Access is as simple
as using an interface application or just a web
browser from any location.
It allows users to work from anywhere, to
perform any task with any application, and to
pay for only what you use.

13. CONCLUSION
Information flow is what the Internet is about.
Information sharing is power. If you don't
share your ideas, smart people can't do
anything about them, and you'll remain
anonymous and powerless.
