Theme of the slide: What are businesses putting into their apps? Location-based services
Using location context mobile apps can deliver information that would be relevant a visitor interacting within a particular venue, starting with:
1.) Easy, intuitive access to the Wi-Fi network
2.) Wayfinding tools to allow guests to find their way within a venue
3.) Push-notification messages that alert them to relevant communications based on where they are standing in real-time
4.) And for venues, access to backend analytics that help them better understand visitor behavior and service guests
When ecosystems change, agile companies like Aruba adapt.
Apple has changed privacy policies: iOS7 prevents collection of phone’s MAC; iOS 8 randomizes it. Apple makes a move, and other handset manufacturers will follow.
This poses challenges for network-based solutions like ALE or MSE on consumer engagement use cases, but still works well for analytics use cases.
In response, we moved quickly to assess and finalize roadmap for proximity based technologies (Bluetooth Low Energy beacons, FCS: Jan 2015) and we have repositioned ALE for Analytics use cases only.
