The digestive system breaks down food through a series of organs. Food enters the mouth and is swallowed into the esophagus. The stomach mixes food with enzymes before releasing it to the small intestine where nutrients are absorbed with help from the liver and pancreas. Waste then passes through the large intestine before leaving the body.
