4. The PutriMas Weaving Group is located in Jembrana Regency, Bali. Is engaged in conservation and Jembrana
songket development. The purpose of this group was formed as an effort to preservation of ancestral
cultural heritage, as well as empowering the surrounding community in particular women so that they can
be more productive and able to participate in community economy. There are 55 weavers who are members
of the Putrimas Weaving Group, ther are housewives in the surrounding environment.
Efforts to preserve culture are carried out considering the Jembrana songket in a preiod of time 20 years
from now it will be exrinct. We obtained this data by looking at the current average age of our weavers 40
years. Very few young people want to learn to weave. To answer this challenge our group developed a
seamless songket loom. This tool is a modification from the traditional loom (cagcag loom) without reducing
the characteristics of the songket itself. However, the use of traditional looms continues and we continue to
develop in terms of design as well as coloring.
In addition to the seamless loom, The PutriMas Weaving Group also produces innovative works, namely
Jembrana natural batik songket. The natural batik songket is processed through several stages. From
songket we usually precess with batik and finaly finished with natural dteing. This product is very favored by
lovers of traditional fabrics. We developed these innovative products as an effort to prevent all forms of
plagiarism that bring down the price of traditional songket.
Jembrana's traditional songket has it's own unique style and color. Colors that are dominated by bright
colors, are often difficult to maintain because there are some faded colors. In addition, colors that are too
bright are not suitable to be used for clothing. That's why our group then produces and developing natural
dye songket. Eco-Friendly product with appearance, Classic, and Elegant colors are the main attraction for
fabric lovers in this songket weaving.
This development and preservation effort still requires even harder efforts. To change the mindset of the
weavers is not an easy job. Making weaving the main job is our effort to make songket weaving. Jembrana
can be done more professionaly both in quality and quantity. So that later it is expected to be able to
compete in the global market, boath nationally and internationally
