2. Problem with Blood Donation.
India faces a shortage of 3 million
blood units in a year. This shortage
can be easily eliminated if only an
additional 2% of India's youth
donated blood, just once in a year.
3. Fact
▪ According to a 2012 World Health Organisation
(WHO) report, only 9 million units are collected
annually, while the need is for 12 million units.
▪ Delhi NCR alone faces a shortage of 100,000
units per year.
4. Fact: About the Blood Unit
One unit of red blood cells (RBC) contains approximately
▪ 200 mL red blood cells,
▪ 100 mL additive solution
▪ ~30 mL plasma
Additive solutions replace the majority of plasma from a
whole blood unit and extend storage life of the unit.
5. How many units of blood can a healthy person donate at a
time? How long does it take to replenish the lost blood?
▪ Every adult human being (male or female) has 5
to 6 litres of blood. Any person between 18 and
60 years, weighing 45 kg or more can safely
donate one unit of blood, that is, 350 ml once
every three months.
▪ After donation, the blood volume can be
recovered within 24 hours and the haemoglobin
count returns to normal within two weeks. No
special diet or rest is required after donating a
unit of blood.

11. Myths that need to be eradicated
Afraid of
catching disease
• Blood is safer today than it has ever been before. Blood centres follow five layers of
safety procedures, including blood donor eligibility standards, individual screening,
laboratory testing, confidential exclusion of donations, and donor record checks.
Illness I’ve had
• Many health conditions do not prevent people from donating blood, and the deferral
criteria for blood donors is constantly changing, which means that if you were turned
down for donation in the past, you may now be eligible to donate.
On Medication
• Many medications, including allergy medicines, vitamins, aspirins, blood pressure pills,
do not affect your eligibility as a blood donor.
12. Problems that need to be eradicated
Blood is not
rich enough
• Nutrients level can be increased significantly by
some simple changes to your diet.
Blood Donation
Centre
• Sometime people don’t know about these Centers,
make aware them by any mean (Newspaper, Local
News Channel etc.)
13. Solution which we think is effective…
1. By conducting seminars and Street plays , publishing
advertisement in social media and newspapers to make people
aware about blood donation.
2. By approaching some fitness freak celebrity like Baba
Ramdev,Shipa Shetty to encourage people for blood donation
that have lakhs of followers.
3. By making Donor Name Social so everyone can know about the
donor, government will make fell them that they are indeed
responsible citizen/people.
14. 3. Making Website Or
Mobile App, Give
Rewards to the
Donor.
