Awareness of Open Access publishing options has increased greatly over the last several years. However, open access content remains nearly indistinguishable from paid content in library systems. The University of Central Florida initiated two projects to raise awareness of the variety, quality, and quantity of OA content. The presenter will describe creating a searchable OA Journals List and resolver in SFX, and a method for placing an icon next to OA articles in EBSCO Discovery Service.

I’m UCF’s eResources librarian and serve as the Discovery Support contact for our Scholarly Communications team. As part of my Discovery Support role I’ve initiated a few projects which may interest ALCTS/LITA eResource Management attendees.
Open Access made great inroads into scholarly publication processes
Researcher choose to publish in one thousands of quality OA journals or to submit their article to open repositories.
Many researchers become aware of OA through grant requirements and as they consider publication options.
UCF Scholarly Communications Team created an infograph illustrating the research processes and related services from start to finish - from idea to altmetrics.
Four subcycles represent the major stages: Planning, Project, Publication, and 21st Digital Scholarship.
Each dot on the cycles represents a service or process that is or should be supported.
I’m the providing supporting Discovery Support
In that role I try to highlight UCF author works and also promote OA in general

Once published Open Access content becomes mostly indistinguishable from subscription content in library tools such as the discovery service and OpenURL resolver.
The catalog, discovery services, and Journals lists include OA, but don’t highlight it
Users may find and access OA without knowing it
On the open web must know to seek out OA in specialized directories or host sites
These sites lack in-depth indexing and only basic subject categorization
