The Colorado Springs Philharmonic continues to strive to bring you the finest
programming in classical and popular music, creating an artistic experience
that cannot be enjoyed anywhere else in quite the same way. Only these
musicians, with this audience, in our beautiful Pikes Peak Center can
combine to make a Philharmonic concert a singularly uplifting experience.
We value your support, and we thank you for letting us know time and
time again how vital we are to you and our community. Music can truly
enhance all our lives, and we are fortunate to perform for such a devoted and
enthusiastic audience.
I take seriously my responsibility to bring you remarkable music. Not only familiar, tried-and-true
music, but music selected to push your emotional boundaries with new, meaningful experiences.
As we come closer to our 90th Anniversary in the 2016-17 Season, we pledge to continue to strive to
bring you the very best. You deserve nothing less.

2014-15 ANNUAL REPORT4
NATHANNEWBROUGHpresidentandCEO
The Colorado Springs Philharmonic has experienced another banner year. With
growth in our audience, supporters, and fans we are reaching more and more
people in the Pikes Peak Region, Southern Colorado, and beyond.
From our humble beginnings as a 27-piece orchestra in 1927, to an
ensemble that has more than tripled in size. Today’s Colorado Springs
Philharmonic is Southern Colorado’s premier professional musical ensemble.
We are a strong, vibrant, and growing family. The subscription audience
has grown 253% since 2009. And a recent audience survey showed that the
free Summer Symphony concerts attracted not only many in our community, but played host to
individuals from across the U.S. and as far away as the Untied Kingdom, France, Australia, Mexico,
Egypt, and South Korea.
The Philharmonic invests in multiple collaborative partnerships with local schools and organizations.
Philharmonic Kids and the new Free for Kids are two such projects that, over the last year, reached
more than 6,600 school-aged children.
Free for Kids offers complimentary admission to young people ages 7-17. During the
2014-15 season, more than $15,000 in tickets were distributed to parents who introduced
their children to orchestral music.
Philharmonic Kids performance field trips and supplemental music programming in schools
has been an important part of the Philharmonic’s musical offerings since our inception.
Spring 2015 marked the Philharmonic’s first Link Up performance as part of a new
partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. The Philharmonic is the first and
only orchestra in Colorado to offer Link Up to classrooms.
These programs are breaking down barriers to the arts by facilitating greater participation from all
families and children, regardless of socio-economic status, to create an inclusive environment that is
open to all. Plus we are in the process of concluding our new Strategic Plan, working to do even more
for you.
Let me conclude by thanking you - the audience members who have been loyal to the Philharmonic
through the years, to our many patrons and sponsors who have provided the financial support needed
to run this complex organization, to our devoted musicians who inspire us all, to the Colorado
Springs Philharmonic Guild and other volunteers who help us every day, and to the greater Pikes Peak
community that has taken such pride in our orchestra. With your continued support, we are ready for
a phenomenal future.

B.A.STREETchairmanoftheboard
Four seasons ago the Philharmonic started The Maestro’s Circle. Members
of the Maestro Circle pledge gifts of $1,000 or more for three
consecutive seasons. When the Circle began, we had hoped to achieve
the goal of 50 households participating. This season we passed a
momentous landmark – more than 200 Maestro’s Circle households.
Success of this scale has tremendous implications for our organization
and we are extremely grateful.
These pledges are essential to our organization for a variety of reasons.
As a non-profit orchestra, about half our funding is from contributions.
Having these secure commitments from generous, devoted donors has allowed us the time and
energy to spend our efforts growing this Circle while also initiating new funding sources. A key
element of our financial security is this ability to diversify our revenue stream.
Thank you to all who have already stepped forward to join The Maestro’s Circle. I also want to
thank donors of all levels who continue to make the Philharmonic a priority in their philanthropic
plans. Gifts of all sizes are needed and valued to maintain our fantastic programming. It is with
your support that we are growing, vibrant, and building towards an even stronger
future together.

  • 2. 2014-15 ANNUAL REPORT2 ARTISTICHIGHLIGHTSJOSEPCABALLÉ-DOMENECHmusicdirector The Colorado Springs Philharmonic continues to strive to bring you the finest programming in classical and popular music, creating an artistic experience that cannot be enjoyed anywhere else in quite the same way. Only these musicians, with this audience, in our beautiful Pikes Peak Center can combine to make a Philharmonic concert a singularly uplifting experience. We value your support, and we thank you for letting us know time and time again how vital we are to you and our community. Music can truly enhance all our lives, and we are fortunate to perform for such a devoted and enthusiastic audience. I take seriously my responsibility to bring you remarkable music. Not only familiar, tried-and-true music, but music selected to push your emotional boundaries with new, meaningful experiences. As we come closer to our 90th Anniversary in the 2016-17 Season, we pledge to continue to strive to bring you the very best. You deserve nothing less. Josep Caballé-Domenech Music Director JOSHUA BELL international violinist and world renowned musician performed with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic in February BOLÉRO delivered two unforgettable, emotionally- charged performances honoring our strong Spanish connection THE MIRACULOUS MANDARIN pushed the envelope with a new level of artistry and adventurous programming DISNEY FANTASIA saw back-to-back sold-out concerts, appealing to audiences of all ages THE RITE OF SPRING challenged artistic boundaries in two thrilling performances

  • 4. 2014-15 ANNUAL REPORT4 NATHANNEWBROUGHpresidentandCEO The Colorado Springs Philharmonic has experienced another banner year. With growth in our audience, supporters, and fans we are reaching more and more people in the Pikes Peak Region, Southern Colorado, and beyond. From our humble beginnings as a 27-piece orchestra in 1927, to an ensemble that has more than tripled in size. Today’s Colorado Springs Philharmonic is Southern Colorado’s premier professional musical ensemble. We are a strong, vibrant, and growing family. The subscription audience has grown 253% since 2009. And a recent audience survey showed that the free Summer Symphony concerts attracted not only many in our community, but played host to individuals from across the U.S. and as far away as the Untied Kingdom, France, Australia, Mexico, Egypt, and South Korea. The Philharmonic invests in multiple collaborative partnerships with local schools and organizations. Philharmonic Kids and the new Free for Kids are two such projects that, over the last year, reached more than 6,600 school-aged children. Free for Kids offers complimentary admission to young people ages 7-17. During the 2014-15 season, more than $15,000 in tickets were distributed to parents who introduced their children to orchestral music. Philharmonic Kids performance field trips and supplemental music programming in schools has been an important part of the Philharmonic’s musical offerings since our inception. Spring 2015 marked the Philharmonic’s first Link Up performance as part of a new partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. The Philharmonic is the first and only orchestra in Colorado to offer Link Up to classrooms. These programs are breaking down barriers to the arts by facilitating greater participation from all families and children, regardless of socio-economic status, to create an inclusive environment that is open to all. Plus we are in the process of concluding our new Strategic Plan, working to do even more for you. Let me conclude by thanking you - the audience members who have been loyal to the Philharmonic through the years, to our many patrons and sponsors who have provided the financial support needed to run this complex organization, to our devoted musicians who inspire us all, to the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Guild and other volunteers who help us every day, and to the greater Pikes Peak community that has taken such pride in our orchestra. With your continued support, we are ready for a phenomenal future. Nathan Newbrough President and CEO

  • 6. 2014-15 ANNUAL REPORT6 B.A.STREETchairmanoftheboard Four seasons ago the Philharmonic started The Maestro’s Circle. Members of the Maestro Circle pledge gifts of $1,000 or more for three consecutive seasons. When the Circle began, we had hoped to achieve the goal of 50 households participating. This season we passed a momentous landmark – more than 200 Maestro’s Circle households. Success of this scale has tremendous implications for our organization and we are extremely grateful. These pledges are essential to our organization for a variety of reasons. As a non-profit orchestra, about half our funding is from contributions. Having these secure commitments from generous, devoted donors has allowed us the time and energy to spend our efforts growing this Circle while also initiating new funding sources. A key element of our financial security is this ability to diversify our revenue stream. Thank you to all who have already stepped forward to join The Maestro’s Circle. I also want to thank donors of all levels who continue to make the Philharmonic a priority in their philanthropic plans. Gifts of all sizes are needed and valued to maintain our fantastic programming. It is with your support that we are growing, vibrant, and building towards an even stronger future together. B. A.
