The Indiana School Data and Compliance Project aims to provide data on school performance and compliance at the state, regional, county and district levels. The project will collect and summarize data on topics like bullying, academics and policies from schools to be published online for use by educators, researchers, and other groups. It is hoped that the data can help identify needs and trends to improve education and plan for the future. Around 25-50 volunteers will be needed to gather and post all the school district information within a six month timeframe at a low cost. Regular updates will ensure the continued usefulness of the data over time.
2. Purpose The purpose of the Indiana School Data found within the website of Bully Prevention Alliance is multi-tiered. When complete anyone will be able to go to any one of the pages within the tier and find informational data that shows how the schools are doing on a state level, unified school district level, county level, and school district level.
3. Goal The goal of this project is so that one will have the ability to have not just a glance at how our schools are doing, but also to be able to have valuable information that will give an outlook on future need on multiple levels.
9. Impact In addition to those areas are the valuable resource it will be able to supply to those within the fields of medicine, psychology, sociology and economics.
10. Need There are 250 school districts within the state of Indiana. In order to complete this project volunteers, and interns, can be used to help in the collection and posting of the data within the unified pages for each school district, county and unified school district.
11. Need This also will include a single page under each county with data from private schools and charter schools that are willing to provide information about their own schools.
12. Need Professional volunteers at several levels will be able to provide a summary of how such data can help in future trend outlook within multiple areas and what we as a state should project in those areas.
13. Need The time that it can take to collect the data itself, for each school district, and to post can take upwards to two business days. The time frame in which it could take for the policies for each school district to be evaluated for compliance with the states laws, statutes and regulations could take an additional 2 - 3 days to be completed and posted.
14. Need The total estimated manpower needed in order to finish this project within a six month time frame can range between 25-50 people depending upon their level of experience and ability to work efficiently. If done with volunteers and interns this project could be cost efficient with a low budget.
15. Need The ability to maintain the project within providing updated data. While it would be great to provide updated data every year it may not be possible to do so if such data is not made available in all areas every year from the supplied sources. Therefore it is projected that the information within this area will be updated every two years or when the supplied sources update their information.
20. Design County One tier up from the individual school districts is the county information. The data from each school district within each county in the state of Indiana will then be shown in summary form on the county level. Additional information will be researched and included within this data from other sources besides just education.
21. Design Unified School Districts One tier up from the county level is the Unified School Districts. Taking the summarized educational data from counties one will be able to get a quick glance at how each of the six unified school districts are doing in the state of Indiana as whole.
22. Design State On the main tier level, or the main page, one will be able to observe a complete overview of how the state is doing as a whole from the calculated data made available from the supported sources used in the collection of the data. As well, information will be noted as to the number of school districts in the state that are in compliance and the number of school districts that are not in compliance. Additional research information will also be made available upon this page.
23. Conclusion This data can help in making significant improvements within our educational system on not just the issue of bullying and cyber-bullying, but can also help in preparation of designing and implementing further education in many various areas.
31. Conclusion When updated the information from the prior data will be maintained thus giving individuals the ability to see prior trends, whether there were improvements, as well as what areas need to be targeted as critical, amongst other things.
