King’s Own Institute is a university level institution located
in central Sydney, Australia and offering high quality
accredited diploma and degree courses in business.
Named after a regiment of the British army with which
the CEO & Dean was associated as an exchange officer,
King’s Own Institute adopts a similar spirit and values
with traditions and an established reputation for its
recognised development of successful leaders.
Our initials KOI have a second meaning, as the word
“koi” in some Asian languages is a wild carp. The koi is
energetic and can swim upstream against the current.
According to legend if a koi succeeded in climbing the
falls at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River it
would be transformed into a dragon. This demonstrates
perseverance in adversity and strength of purpose.
Because of its strength and determination to overcome
obstacles, the koi (KOI) represents courage and the ability
to attain high goals.
Similarly, King’s Own Institute aims to be a recognised
leader as an education provider famous for nurturing
our students into successful careers. The experience of
the higher education journey can be as important as the
qualification itself.
Here at King’s Own Institute, we want the career shaping
experience it to be fruitful, memorable and enjoyable.
4
We learn from experience and King’s Own Institute has a leading edge
experience factor. Our academic and management teams have worked widely
in Australia and internationally with some of the best universities and in
leading business and industry. It is their extensive experience and applied
knowledge that provides you, the student, with real and valuable advantage.
You can share in a wonderful learning experience by studying with real, proven
leaders to bring out your best in preparing you for life and a career.
KOI delivers the best possible education with a deep commitment to quality
and excellence and real opportunities to apply your knowledge and skills to
enhance your career with access to a team of superior teachers, facilities and
resources to provide you with a rich educational experience and preparation
for life - a true education. We’re keen, willing and able to actively develop
motivated people to be successful.
Why choose KOI? KOI is the team of proven, widely experienced practitioners
with a proud and established record of achievement in education and business.
Free additional English tuition and assessment is provided to assist you to
improve English language proficiency to help you achieve your goals. KOI is the
place to be: location, facilities, learning support and opportunities. KOI is the
launch paid for your career and with more exciting postgraduate programs
expected to commence in 2013.
It takes a similar amount of effort to study for an affordable, recognised KOI
degree as it does for something less without the support, opportunities and
options for a career and preparation for life.
KOI really
is the right

Overseas Students Health Insurance
International students health insurance
Australian Government law requires international students and their dependents, undertaking formal studies in Australia to
purchase and maintain OSHC for the duration of their studies, from the time of arrival in Australia. Membership of a health
insurance scheme in your home country does not exempt you from having to take out OSHC.
There are 4 registered providers namely OSHC Worldcare, BUPA Australia Health, Medibank Private and Australian Health
Management (AHM). KOI’s recommended provider is AHM and we will arrange the cover on your behalf when you pay your
premium at the time you pay your tuition fees.
Cost of health insurance may vary from year to year. At the time of publication, the cost for 2013 is $475 for 15 months.

sufficient terminals to cater for student needs.

generous free data allowance for internet usage.

King’s Own Institute has a specially designed and resourced library and a specialist
librarian for this essential part of study. Our library is stocked with reference
materials relevant to the courses offered in our Institute and includes text books,
magazines, journals, reference books and newspapers. At KOI, we do our best to

to meet fellow students, relax, mingle and foster friendships. The environment is
stylish, comfortable, practical and inviting. Students can bring their own lunches with
reheating facilities available and a vending machine for that pick-me-up snack to
keep energy levels up.

Refund Policy
KOI refund policy applies to all course monies paid to KOI and includes any course monies paid to an education agent to be remitted to KOI.
The Institute enables students to defer, temporarily suspend or cancel their studies, including granting a leave of absence during the courses through formal
agreement in compassionate or compelling circumstances. Reasons may include, but are not limited to, failure to meet subject pre-requisites, unavailability of
subjects, non-payment of fees and student behaviour.
All notifications of withdrawal from a course, or applications for refunds, must be made in writing and submitted to the Registrar,
King’s Own Institute, Level 1, 545 Kent Street, SYDNEY NSW 2000, Australia.
Refunds will be reimbursed in Australian dollars and the payment sent to the applicant’s home country unless otherwise requested in writing. Refunds will be paid to
the student or the person specified in the written agreement.
KOI will refund, within 28 days, all course monies paid where the student’s application for enrolment is refused by KOI or where the student produces evidence that
the application made by the student for a student visa has been rejected by Australian immigration authorities.
Refunds for student default apply to tuition fees only. Non-refundable payments include the following: enrolment fee,
accommodation placement fee, guardian placement fee, airport pick-up fee.
No refund will be given to any student who cancels once a course has commenced. No transfer of fees to any other institution or any other student account
will be authorised.
KOI will refund within 28 days of receipt of written notification of withdrawal by the student (or parent(s)/legal guardian if the student is
under 18), tuition fees paid by or on behalf of the student less the amounts to be retained as agreed and detailed below:
a. If written notice is received 4 weeks or more prior to commencement of the course, KOI will be entitled to retain the enrolment fee plus 30% of the tuition fee as
an administration fee.
b. If written notice is received less than 4 weeks prior to the commencement of the course 50% of the tuition fee will be refunded
No refund of tuition fees will be made where a student’s enrolment is cancelled for any of the following reasons:
a. Failure to maintain satisfactory course progression
b. Failure to maintain satisfactory attendance
c. Failure to pay course fees
d. Any behaviour identified as resulting in enrolment cancellation in Discipline Policy
If KOI is unable to deliver a course in full, a student will be offered a full refund of all the course money paid to date. The refund will be paid within 2 weeks of the day
on which the course ceased being provided. As an alternative to receiving a refund a student may be offered a place in another course, either at KOI or at another
CRICOS registered provider, at no extra cost to the student. The student then has the right to choose to accept a full refund or to accept a place that might be
offered. If a student accepts in writing the offer of a place in another course, KOI is relieved of its liability to pay a refund to the student.
This agreement, and the availability of the complaints and appeals process, does not remove the right of the student to take action under Australia’s consumer
protection laws. KOI dispute resolution processes do not circumscribe the student’s right to pursue other legal remedies.
Privacy
KOI will maintain the confidentiality and privacy of student information. However, information collected from students in the application process will, as required and in
accordance with the ESOS Act, The National Code 2007 and the Migration Act 1958, be provided to DEEWR, DIAC and other State or Territory government agencies.

Student Life in
To live
Sydney is multicultural and multiracial and with that comes a great variety of places to live. Depending on your lifestyle you
can choose from over 600 suburbs in the Greater Sydney area. Choose according to budget, facilities, shops and activities
available in an area and, of course, distance from the Institute.
Cost of living as a guideline is AUD$18,000 per year. This will vary according to personal preferences, choices and
circumstances. With some research and adjustments, many students are able to enjoy their lives here within or
below this budget.
Accommodation Options
For students under 18 years, the Australian government requires students to have a local carer. This can be a parent,
legal guardian or a DIAC approved blood relative otherwise a homestay arrangement is compulsory.
Homestay
When a student, regardless of age, first arrives in Australia, it is recommended to live in a Homestay arrangement where
the student lives with an Australian family in a private furnished room. While adjusting to a new life in a new country, the
student can also gain improved language skills and learn the Australian culture in a safe and caring environment.
Homestay costs from AUD $220 per person per week: Please contact:

To start
For many students, this is the first time they are leaving home and living overseas independently. At KOI, we understand this

Membership of a health insurance scheme in your home country does not exempt you from having to take out OSHC. There are 4 registered providers namely OSHC Worldcare, BUPA Australia Health, Medibank Private and Australian Health Management (AHM). KOI’s recommended provider is AHM and we will arrange the cover on your behalf when you pay your premium at the time you pay your tuition fees. Cost of health insurance may vary from year to year. • 22. 20 Student Application and Written Agreement Form 2 / 2 Refund Policy KOI refund policy applies to all course monies paid to KOI and includes any course monies paid to an education agent to be remitted to KOI. The Institute enables students to defer, temporarily suspend or cancel their studies, including granting a leave of absence during the courses through formal agreement in compassionate or compelling circumstances. Reasons may include, but are not limited to, failure to meet subject pre-requisites, unavailability of subjects, non-payment of fees and student behaviour. All notifications of withdrawal from a course, or applications for refunds, must be made in writing and submitted to the Registrar, King’s Own Institute, Level 1, 545 Kent Street, SYDNEY NSW 2000, Australia. Refunds will be reimbursed in Australian dollars and the payment sent to the applicant’s home country unless otherwise requested in writing. Refunds will be paid to the student or the person specified in the written agreement. KOI will refund, within 28 days, all course monies paid where the student’s application for enrolment is refused by KOI or where the student produces evidence that the application made by the student for a student visa has been rejected by Australian immigration authorities. Refunds for student default apply to tuition fees only. Non-refundable payments include the following: enrolment fee, accommodation placement fee, guardian placement fee, airport pick-up fee. No refund will be given to any student who cancels once a course has commenced. No transfer of fees to any other institution or any other student account will be authorised. KOI will refund within 28 days of receipt of written notification of withdrawal by the student (or parent(s)/legal guardian if the student is under 18), tuition fees paid by or on behalf of the student less the amounts to be retained as agreed and detailed below: a. If written notice is received 4 weeks or more prior to commencement of the course, KOI will be entitled to retain the enrolment fee plus 30% of the tuition fee as an administration fee. b. If written notice is received less than 4 weeks prior to the commencement of the course 50% of the tuition fee will be refunded No refund of tuition fees will be made where a student’s enrolment is cancelled for any of the following reasons: a. Failure to maintain satisfactory course progression b. Failure to maintain satisfactory attendance c. Failure to pay course fees d. Any behaviour identified as resulting in enrolment cancellation in Discipline Policy If KOI is unable to deliver a course in full, a student will be offered a full refund of all the course money paid to date. The refund will be paid within 2 weeks of the day on which the course ceased being provided. As an alternative to receiving a refund a student may be offered a place in another course, either at KOI or at another CRICOS registered provider, at no extra cost to the student. The student then has the right to choose to accept a full refund or to accept a place that might be offered. If a student accepts in writing the offer of a place in another course, KOI is relieved of its liability to pay a refund to the student. This agreement, and the availability of the complaints and appeals process, does not remove the right of the student to take action under Australia’s consumer protection laws. KOI dispute resolution processes do not circumscribe the student’s right to pursue other legal remedies. Privacy KOI will maintain the confidentiality and privacy of student information. However, information collected from students in the application process will, as required and in accordance with the ESOS Act, The National Code 2007 and the Migration Act 1958, be provided to DEEWR, DIAC and other State or Territory government agencies. • 23. 21 Student Life in To live Sydney is multicultural and multiracial and with that comes a great variety of places to live. Depending on your lifestyle you can choose from over 600 suburbs in the Greater Sydney area. Choose according to budget, facilities, shops and activities available in an area and, of course, distance from the Institute. Cost of living as a guideline is AUD$18,000 per year. This will vary according to personal preferences, choices and circumstances. With some research and adjustments, many students are able to enjoy their lives here within or below this budget. Accommodation Options For students under 18 years, the Australian government requires students to have a local carer. This can be a parent, legal guardian or a DIAC approved blood relative otherwise a homestay arrangement is compulsory. Homestay When a student, regardless of age, first arrives in Australia, it is recommended to live in a Homestay arrangement where the student lives with an Australian family in a private furnished room. While adjusting to a new life in a new country, the student can also gain improved language skills and learn the Australian culture in a safe and caring environment.
