Introduction
It was my great pleasure to host the 18th edition of The CLO Exchange this August 2019.
Thank you to everyone that was able to participate! The Exchange was designed around digital
transformation, the evolving role of the CLO and the emerging trends that will affect their role in
2019 and beyond.
Key take aways from the Exchange include macro changes occurring across all industries
that are impacting the required shape and size of the workforce of the future. At the same
time, because CEOs consistently place talent shortages and skills gap at the top of the list
when asked about their biggest barriers to workplace transformation, L&D has a major role to
play in shaping and executing the right strategies for maximum learning impact during times
of unprecedented change. CLOs must transform their go-to-market learning strategies while
balancing the advantages of scale with the ability to pivot quickly based on market movements
to ensure supporting & developing the workforce occurs in this age of digital transformation,.
This requires a focus on personalization, just-in-time learning experiences, a demonstrated
positive ROI and a strong partnership with the business to enable organizational agility.
In addition to the in depth discussions led by practitioners, solution providers were on hand to
raise awareness of new technologies and to consult with practitioners to develop new, effective
strategies to tackle their biggest challenges.
I am actively working on the next editions of this industry leading event and hope to see you at
a future CLO Exchange!
Warm regards,
Teresa Fondessy, Executive Director of Production, HR Exchange Portfolio

Top Five Sessions
In this talk, Brandon Carson, Head of Learning, Delta Air
Lines, discussed the learning shift in this age of digital
transformation. Shifting to a digital perspective in our
VUCA society forces us to constantly look at our people’s
performance through the lens of consumers in this digital
age. This presentation covered what they planned, what they
learned along the way and how they pivoted.
• Achieve efficiency through virtual cohorts
• Develop modern, relevant content, consistent with today’s
learner needs
• Achieve better trained, more proficient employees
The ABCS of XYZS: Managing Generational Expectations
By the year 2025, Generation Y will comprise three-fourths of the workforce, and Gen Z, accounting for more than 25% of the
US population, will start flooding the workplace. Ensuring Generation X feels valued and developed will increase the likelihood of
retaining them. Each generation brings new expectations with it, and as a result, organizations must adapt and meet, or surpass,
those expectations in order to find better ways to attract and retain the top talent crucial for organizational success. During this
interactive discussion attendees, discovered what the modern worker cares about and strategies to keep them around, engaged,
and happy.
Learning Take-aways:
• Discover what the modern worker cares about
• Learn strategies to retain top talent
• Apply ABC Model to workforce and succession planning
Attendees discovered how a large matrixed organization aligned their
functional L&D strategy to address an impending talent crisis when faced
with 33% of the Finance Leadership positions becoming retirement
eligible within 5 years, and a growing generational gap of the remaining
population. They understood how influential leaders applied their social
capital to rethink Raytheon’s Finance functional learning strategy and
professional development aligned to their business needs. In this
discussion attendes:
• Became a catalyst for change through visionary leadership
commitment and relentless motivation.
• Aligned stakeholders with highly collaborative engagements to
create a shared vision and strategy.
• Leveraged social capital to influence without authority and navigate
the matrix to engage employees at all levels.
Let the data lead you through performance analytics to shape the L&D
strategy.

feedback. We are focused on end-to-end, holistic solutions that develop our team
members from every angle.
