Nonfarm payrolls continue to advance
• 2014 marked the fifth consecutive year of annual nonfarm payroll growth in St. Louis. This is the
longest stretch since the late 1990’s when the streak reached eight. The 17,100 jobs added in 2014
were the most since 1999. While the gains are a positive sign for the region, nonfarm payrolls remain
39,400 below the peak in June 2008.
• The increases have been spread across multiple sectors in the economy with professional and
business services, mining, logging and construction, and leisure and hospitality leading the way.
