3. 1887 - a significant year
In 1887 the country celebrated Queen Victoria’s Golden
Jubilee - 50 years as Queen - one in four of the worlds
population was a subject of the queen.
William Gladstone was a prominent politician when William
Turner started a business in Sheffield smelting and refining
gold and silver.
The company quickly expanded into rolling other metals and
manufacturing cutlery.
The majority of the company’s early production was to supply
to other Cutlers for finishing and sale under their own name.
In essence William Turner was the “cutler’s cutler”. In the
early 1930’s the company designed two of the classic Sheffield
patterns, Jesmond and Harley, which are still copied
worldwide to this day.
William Turner’s tradition as a Master Cutler lives on and the
company continues to produce the highest quality Sheffield
cutlery in Hallmarked sterling silver, silver plate and 18/10
stainless steel. Each and every piece is individually guaranteed
for the lifetime of the puchaser and all the patterns featured in
this brochure are timeless, possessing elegance and quality
that will never date.
By choosing william Turner cutlery you are choosing
Sheffield’s best and making an investment that will not only
provide you with a lifetime of pleasure but will serve
generations to come.
Remember, there’s cutlery and then there’s William Turner
cutlery.
