Prediction
• TechUK predicts £241 billion in UK economic growth and
157,000 new jobs by 2020 due to 'Big Data'
– Internet, smart phones , wireless networks, sensors, social
media and other digital technologies magnify the amount of
data being collected
– DNA of business is changing
– Commercial use of Big Data is still at an early stage.

– Birmingham City University: data platform, research co-operations
– Enable iD: requirements analysis, consultancy on data use and privacy
– Innovation Birmingham: business support, i Centrum access
– Telensa: demonstrator smart street lighting network, base stations
– WMCA: data owner, innovation

BCC – Digital Birmingham is a part of the Council and we will lead on engagement as well as managing the overall project
Aston University are experts in photonics – the use of light to perform functions usually done by electronics e.g. telecommunication and in lighting. They have demonstrators for development and collaboration
BCU: are designing and building the data platform and will offer expertise in the use of data and a safe environment for it’s use
Enable iD are receiving your expressions of interest and are experts in data use and the privacy requirements around this
Innovation Birmingham are kindly hosting me this evening. They have expert business knowledge to be shared with you
Telensa are a global leader in street lighting and smart city applications
Transport West Midlands are a part of WMCA and will provide expertise in transport and its opportunities with access to data sets to innovate and improve
When you express your interest we will check your eligibility and you will be contacted to progress your application to the next stage and find out your areas of interest.
It’s free to participate other than your time commitment if you are eligible, the project is funded under ERDF and you need to meet the criteria – it’s all on the expression of interest form.
You must declare the full amount of aid, from any public source, and in any format, you have already received over the last 3 financial years.
