The Berry College Bonner Center for Community Engagement (BCCE) has always been committed to the ethos of "doing with not unto" the local community. Thus, the BCCE staff invests in the personal relationships established with community partner colleagues by intentionally making time to support community mentors. Every summer the BCCE staff schedules annual one-on-one meetings with each community partner. These one-hour meetings allow for a discussion of the previous year's partnership while also planning for the future. They include brainstorming, problem-solving, and shared visioning. In addition, partners share organizational updates, discuss current community needs, and give insights regarding program improvement. These meetings are working meetings that sometimes include hard conversations regarding mutuality and reciprocity. Following the annual meeting, the BCCE staff is always available to respond to calls/emails from community partners regarding any questions or concerns. The staff works diligently to communicate program expectations, student deadlines, timecard protocols, etc. early and often. Furthermore, the BCCE hosts a Community Partners' Luncheon in the summer as a means of "thank you" and celebration. This event provides nonprofit professionals with networking opportunities amongst themselves and with other Berry College departments committed to community work (i.e., Athletics, Cohort Scholarship Programs, LifeWorks, Residence Life, Volunteer Services).
