The document summarizes a new cloud-based chemical inventory management tool called UC Chemicals that is being implemented across the UC system. It can be used via a mobile app or web application to easily track chemical containers using QR barcoding. Chemical and safety information is automatically populated. Users can create networks to share chemicals while controlling access. Features include adding/removing chemicals via barcodes or mobile camera, exporting inventories, advanced search, and hazard information. Contact erm@ucop.edu for more details.

UC Chemicals: Mobile Chemical Inventory App
1. Contact erm@ucop.edu for more information.
The UC system is implementing UC Chemicals, a cloud-based chemical inventory management tool
developed with the collaborative effort of all UC Campuses. UCR EH&S is demonstrating UC
Chemicals to all UCR principal investigators and lab staff and using UC Chemicals to conduct
chemical inventory of all UCR laboratories.
UC Chemicals allows easy tracking and maintenance of containers using a QR -barcoding system.
Chemical and safety information, such as hazard codes and first aid, are auto populated. The app
enables users to create chemical networks to easily share chemicals while controlling access. UC
Chemicals includes a complementary web application that works in sync with the mobile app and has
additional features such as structure search and import/export capabilities.
Features include:
• Supports add/remove/track via barcodes and mobile camera (Compatible with Android and iOS
smartphones).
• Capability to export inventories as excel spreadsheets.
• Advanced inventory search based on name, CAS or substructure.
• Provides GHS hazards codes, SDS, storage and first aid information.
• Ability to share and track chemicals among research groups while controlling access levels.

Getting Started Guide for UC Chemicals
1. Download the Application to your mobile device or tablet from any of the following stores
PlayStore, Apple Store, App Store: UC Chemicals - Pilot
2. Open the App and sign in using school net ID and password.
3. Select Group where chemical inventory is located. All Principal Investigators (PIs) should have
already completed LHAT (Laboratory Hazard Assessment tool and created a Profile and Group(s).
4. Add Sublocations using ehs.ucop.edu/chemicals
Using the Application: Mobile Device
1. Assign sublocations in the laboratory for example: Fume Hood 1, Shelf 1A etc.
2. Restart the application if recently added sublocation is not showing up.
3. Place a barcode on an appropriate location, tap the corner settings wheel, and scan the barcode
to that location.
4. Add chemicals by tapping the “Add” button, and type CAS number, or chemical name
5. After clicking on the correct chemical name that will be barcoded, complete the
following information for container size, state and container type. Barcode or click
on the location.
6. To add chemicals to your lab, you click on “Add”, and you can search the by CAS #,
or chemical name.
7. Details of the chemical will help you distinguish between other chemicals.
8. By clicking on “Scan” the camera function will appear and you can scan the barcode
of its location and barcode for that specific container.
9. Be sure to add the container size, state (liquid, gas, or solid) and container type (glass
bottle, plastic bottle etc.)
