In the midst of this pandemic, I believe there is a hidden hope that it has shown us, that if we work together we can tackle both corona and climate change, a crisis we have been experiencing for some time.
2. Carbon Emissions Declining, How?
• If there is a positive in all of this nightmare is that carbon
emissions have actually gone down since February according to
NASA
• Reduction in air travel and traffic being one of the biggest
contribution to this decline, mainland china saw a decrease in
travel by 60-70%
• Industries that rely on coal and oil also saw a decrease in
activity, C02 emissions dropped as much as 25% in China
3. Moving Forward, a Green New Deal
• These trends are very promising and show a need to do
something and that we can something about climate change if
we work together.
• A Green New Deal would have us reach 100% renewable
energy for energy and transportation by 2030 and carbon free
by 2050, the time frame we have to reverse the damages
carbon emissions have wrecked. We do this through investing
in solar, wind, and air technology.
4. Benefits
• Creating 20 million jobs.
• In 15 years will pay for itself.
• Save average Americans money
• Will provide clean air to all, reducing health complications from
pollution.
• Will expand our energy system to accommodate our growing
energy needs.
5. Clarification
• The views expressed in this PowerPoint do not mean that MCP
thinks coronavirus is good and to let it keep happening, this is
just an example of what can be accomplished if we work
together.
• Continue to follow social distancing, quarantine, and hygienic
practices to reduce the spread of the virus.
• We are all in this together.
