Media As
In what ways does my media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
products?
I used a traditional masthead in a font that I thought
was appealing to the Indie, electro pop scene of my
target audience. The font I used, I thought, looked
like retro old computer writing which I thought
appealed to my target audience also.
How does my media product represent particular
social groups?
The language I used was that of which my target
audience use. I used photos of bands that were the
age of my target audience; I did this because it was
something that my target audience could relate to.
The pictures I used were of people that looked
slightly non-conformist and comfortable in
themselves because that is what I wanted to put
across to my readers.
What Kind of media institution might distribute my
media product and why?
My music magazine is mainstream so will be sold in
the majority of establishments. For example HMV,
Tesco etc and most news agents or corner shops.
My target audience is a huge age range so there
will be plenty of places for custom.

Media As
Who would be the audience for my media product?
My target audience is from 15-21 year olds because
I wanted to cover a broad area of music to attract
more custom. I found that my magazine was
attracting more of a female audience than male.
How I attracted/addressed my audience
I found out from my survey that my target audience
liked the style of my magazine and the bands
featured. I included in my skyline a competition to
win tickets to see Pendulum play live. I found that a
give away or a competition is a good way to attract
custom. I made it clear what my magazine was
about by using bright colours and bands I knew my
target audience would listen to and like to know
about. I also put my main headlines and photos on
the left third so that it looked jam packed full of
information. It also appeals to potential buyers.
Looking back at my preliminary task, what have I
learnt in the progression from it to full product?
I have learnt how to use Photoshop to my best
ability and how to improve photos like I had never
thought possible at the beginning of the task. I have
learnt how to use effects and brushes to improve
my work and to make a photo or some text much
better. I used Photoshop to make my magazine look
more professional. I also got a much better
understanding of layout and where to position
photos and text.

In my feedback survey, I did have some criticism
about my use of font and how I should have used
more interesting fonts.
What Have I Learnt about Technologies from the
Process of constructing this product?
I have also learnt how to put together a front cover,
contents and double page spread for a magazine by
using Photoshop to my best ability. I have learnt all
the terminology for my magazine front cover and
how to use them properly. I have done this to
understand the production process and so that my
magazine can look as professional as possible.
