- This is the value of manufacturing output in Canada over the last 15 years. Point out: - Manufacturing shipments doubled between 1991 and 2000 - 30% of that growth was due to the falling dollar, about 5% because the US market grew more rapidly than Canada’s. The rest is due to the restructuring that took place in Canadian manufacturing. - Recession since 2000 - Impact of 9/11 - took a year to recover - Downward trend since early 2003 - impact of the higher dollar - Trough in August 2003 is what happens when you turn the power off for a day in Ontario - The trough in mid 1998 = impact of strike at brake plant in Saginaw Michigan - shut down GM supply chain.
