- NOTE TO PRESENTER: You can go into different levels of depth for this and depends on your audience, i.e. If it is aimed at PR candidates and stakeholders, then you will spend more time providing ePortfolio tutorials; if it is for a general audience and an update on the VLE in general, then you will probably want to talk about a few of the interesting modules/courses according to latest ones, or ones relevant to your audience. Introduce yourself and your role. What you are going to cover today etc.
- The CILIP Virtual Learning Environment consists of two parts: The CILIP VLE – this is the courses area, where we have created online learning resources to support your professional development. There is a special area for professional registration with courses to support each of the levels, and revalidation. This is where candidates submit their Portfolios CILIP Portfolio – this is the user generated content area, where CILIP members can create their own content and collaborate. This is where candidates will upload their content, put it into a Portfolio page that can be shared, and then share it with you their mentor and the Professional registration Assessors. Members can collaborate through the Groups on the CILIP Portfolio – there are ones for Chartership, Certification and Fellowship that are well used by members to offer mutual support and advice. One of the things that causes candidates confusion is the fact they have to switch between these two systems They go into the VLE for help and support and learning opportunities, then into the CILIP Portfolio to create their content e.g. CPD log, reflections, upload evidence. Create a portfolio page and then have to come back into the CILIP VLE to pay and submit. So if any of you are mentors please can you help them remember this.
- I’m going to demo the CILIP VLE for you, the particular bits that are useful for you depending which hat you are using, but whether a learner, committee member, mentors or mentee – there is something for you. Show how to login to the VLE via the CILIP website In the VLE course area show the Getting started section This is where how to guides and videos are for using the VLE. First time users start here Navigate back using CILIP Logo to home page, and then go into prof registration area. Point out Here is where candidates enrol for Prof Registration Once enrolled and paid they get access to a course support area – this has help and resources to guide them through the process, and this is where they submit their Portfolio Mentor support – this is your area to help you as mentors. All the documentation is on here, including the list of mentors, and list of mentor support officer. Andrew Eynon is the Mentor Support officer for Wales. Candidate Support is provided by CILIP member services team Updating Your profile information – to help candidates find you, and determine if you are the mentor for them please add some information to your Profile . You need to do this in the VLE course area and CILIP Portfolio. In CILIP VLE In the blocks on the left hand side look for the one titled Administration and select My Profile Settings Choose Edit profile and you will see your information. Scroll down the page and add some text to the description field. You can add a picture, your interests and under optional you can add details of social media ids for people to find and follow you if you wish. When you have edited choose Update Profile to save changes CILIP Portfolio From the CILIP Home page click on the link to CILIP Portfolio in top right Content tab – this is where you upload your content Profile info – you can add your description here – be canny and copy and paste from the VLE account Profile pics – add your pic Files – this is where candidates upload their evidence e.g. PKSB spreadsheet. We recommend that candidates create a folder, as files will sort alphanumerically in a folder rather than appear in the order uploaded if added to a page as individual files. Personally I’d go for a folder per assessment criteria Journal – this is the portfolio blog. CV – allows you to create your own CV. Personally I would not use this and instead have a word doc. Plans – use this to set up a development plan with some targets. CPD Log – don’t create a CPD log for each type of activity. Create one log for the year, and add items to it. Use the cog symbol to add activities to a log. Make sure that candidates make use of the description field to reflect on what they got out of the CPD, how it will be applied, how it changes their practice. Notes – these are blocks you create directly on a page and can then edit Portfolio tab – this is where you create a page. Content is private until you put it in a page that is shared with someone. You have to drag and drop the block onto the page. Make sure you look for the dotted box before you drop the object. You can set up a page with place holders e.g. Put your folder in for assessment criteria 1 even if it is empty. As you add content to the folder, the page will update. Create a page – don’t put the content in the description – this is just to tell you what this page is for Once you have created the page you can then edit the content Text – use this for a text box e.g. To put a reflective statement in Media – use this to put your files/folders into a page General – this is where the CPD log lives Edit layout – to change the format of the page. Note there are a lot more options than before Share page – this is where you share page with a mentor, friend or the Professional Registration assessors. Share with other users and groups, choose users, type in the name of the person. Share with other users and groups, choose groups, type in assessors to see professional reg assessors. Click on the plus symbol to add them and then save Can check who can see your pages by using Shared by Me option. This will list all your pages and collections with who has access. Use the key icon under edit access to add/remove people for sharing Profile page is what you share with the rest of the VLE. Note only you see all your pages, other people only see any pages listed that you have shared with them. Edit this page to change what info is displayed.
- I am now going to give you a quick overview of what is in the ePortfolio – a resource used for Professional Registration, but it is something that you may wish to use as a CPD log/record. Particularly useful for appraisals etc.
- This diagram shows the process for creating a portfolio page. Just to emphasise the fact that creating and sharing content happens in CILIP Portfolio BEFORE the submission which takes place in the CILIP VLE
