ACCT Latest Action in Washington
July 9, 2014 – Today, the House passed H.R. 803, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), by a vote of
415 to 6. The vote sends the bill to the President after the Senate passed the bill on June 25th by a vote of 95‐3. WIOA
reauthorizes the Workforce Investment Act and contains a number of positive aspects for community colleges, as
described in an ACCT analysis, here: http://bit.ly/1r8LnYc.
Tomorrow, the House Education and Workforce Committee will mark up three bills associated with the reauthorization
of the Higher Education Act. Bipartisan substitutes will be offered for each of the three bills, and can be found here:
http://1.usa.gov/1qjUFiI. ACCT signed onto a joint letter with other associations in the higher education community
providing comments prior to the markup: http://bit.ly/1oIoQjT.
