Mental distractions and mental blocks.
You may:
1. Have a lot of negative thoughts about failing or not performing well on the test.
2. Worry excessively, which interferes with your ability to do well.
3. Have trouble concentrating and be distracted by noise.
4. Have trouble remembering what you studied.
5. Be unable to think effectively about the task.
6. Be unable to keep your mind on the test.
7. Be worried about other people scoring higher than you and think that you are not smart
enough.

You may have physical reactions such as:
1. Fidgeting
2. Butterflies in your stomach
3. Quickened heart rate
4. Rapid breathing
5. Nausea
6. Sweating
7. Headaches
8. Stomachaches
12. Before the test HELP
1. Be aware of your negative thoughts
2. Relax your muscles and breathe.
3. Develop a schedule by marking deadlines and exam dates on a calendar.
4. Creating learning aids. Use flashcards, charts, timelines, or outlines.
5. Sleep well the night before the test.
6. Sit by yourself and try not to talk to anyone before the test. Anxiety is contagious.
7. Approach the exam with confidence.
8. Don’t forget to eat. Your brain needs fuel to function. Drink plenty of water. Avoid sugary
drinks, which can cause your blood sugar to rise and fall. Caffeinated drinks can increase your
anxiety. Snack during test (If allowed) TOMORROW YOU CAN!!!
13. During the test HELP
1. Read the directions carefully.
2. Budget your time.
3. Change positions to help you relax.
4. Skip a question if you do not know. Don’t waste time.
5. Don’t panic if others finish before you. There is no reward for finishing first.
6. For essay exams, organize your thoughts in an outline.
7. For objective exams, eliminate wrong answers and make a guess.
8. Concentrate on the questions you know well.
