Giving Balkans: Philanthropy's Response to COVID-19 (Value of donations)

Philanthropic donations in response to COVID-19 in Western Balkan countries totaled over €74 million from the start of the pandemic through July 2021. Companies were the largest donors in most countries, except in Albania where citizens donated the most. Donations came from businesses, citizens, individuals, private foundations, and other sources, with businesses contributing over 66% of donations in Serbia, over 56% in Montenegro, over 44% in Kosovo, over 36% in Albania, and over 48% in Croatia.

- 1. Philanthropy’s Response to COVID-19 Overnight, COVID-19 changed life and the way how our communities function. From the beginning of the crisis to July 31, 2021, we processed data on 6,057 philanthropic instances in the Western Balkans and registered the total amount of EUR 74,097,787 in donations. In all the countries of Western Balkans companies were the largest donors, except in Albania where citizens were the largest donor.
