1. ‘See No Evil: The Moors Murders’

Format: Serial/single drama
Genre: True Crime
Narrative Structure: This drama is set in a linear fashion as it follows a straight storyline
however foreshadowing is used to show that the moors are the main location of the drama.
Notes:
● By using establishing shots in the beginning of the drama with the low key lighting
and with the sound perspective of the wind been added this creates tension to the
whole drama. These are also used to show that this area is important to the whole
story creating a fore shadowing and giving the audience the thought that this
location, the moors are a key character in the drama and without any information
about what happens in the drama, it gives the sense of something is going to
happen.
● Cutaway edit from the establishing shots to the scene with the woman and the baby.
These scenes seem to contract each other as the moor shots are dull, with low key
lighting and then the cutaway with the woman and the child is more brighter adding a
sense of tension that these scenes are meant to create these feelings.
● The character of Ian is dressed more higher class than the other characters like that
he has more power than the rest of the characters. Also this is more visible by using
a lower angle only slightly gives the audience the feeling that Ian has more power.
● The character of Myra, seem to change in the costume questions the personality of
the character. By changing from work clothing to a black dress seems to show that is
this character as innocent as first thought.
● Ian’s ascent is different to all the other characters as he is from Scotland,when the
other characters’ ascents show where they are from. This makes Ian almost the
outsider of the group as he is from a different area
● Close up of the characters to show emotion but also to show that they are wearing
the clothing of the period
● Small shake of the camera, this could be because of the high wind in the location but
could have been used to show the confusion between the characters at Ian’s odd
behaviour.

2. ● Non-diegetic music which adds tension to the audience building up the emotion that
they will be having thanks to the editor, who wanted to give a little piece of
information about what the film is going to be like. The dark nature of the film and the
story is shown through the type of music.
● The conversations that are happening in a scene is diegetic to which makes the
scene more real to the audience and acts more like it is a natural environment.
